Vampires in Skyrim

Post » Mon Oct 17, 2011 1:33 pm

Okay so everyone knows vampires are already in but I have a few questions that may or may not have already been answered at some point.

Skyrim lore for vampires includes them living under frozen lakes and being able to reach up through the ice without breaking it, any word on if this will stay true in game? I have no idea how they'd smoothly implement it but it'd be cool regardless.

What will the benefits versus draw backs be for vampirism this time around? I found being a vampire too much of a chore in Oblivion even as a stealth character.

Any and all answers/speculations/witty comments are appreciated!

Well, it's been 200 years since Oblivion, so things could have changed, perhaps some of the Cyrodillic vampires have overtaken Skyrim, that would be a cheap way of Bethesda to implement them. But I doubt it highly that there will be any frozen lake stuff, but Bethesda are pretty good at proving us wrong.

I think that the "frozen lake" vampires will be in but to actually be one?

Don't count on it as it would make no sense at all since they are not "integrated" in society like the Cyrodiilic vampires as in being able to blend in and hide their vampness!

Let me specify what I meant by "Don't count on it". I was referring to the vampires grabbing you through the ice. Don't expect that.

I don't know why honestly any gives a flying spaghetti monster about vampires. Look probably, everyone that is a vampire will looks like the cult leader in omega man just like in oblivion.

Unfortunately, it is true that the Volkihars are too awesome lorewise to be implementable gamewise. Intangibility is too much of a game breaker.

Oblivion vampirism wasn't a chore at all. >_>
If you found that to be a chore, then vampires are obviously not for you.

I'm a very day orientated kind of person so it was most certainly a chore for me unless I fed every 2 minutes. I was talking about maybe there being a hood you could wear to hide you from the sun/special types of armor etc

Hopefully being a vampire is better than Oblivion.

It's possible one of the Dragon Shouts, the short-range teleport, will have its word wall in one of the major vampire lairs. And it's also possible the vampires use it to appear from underneath frozen lakes.

Draugr can use shouts (IIRC), so why not vampires?

Or a shout that turns the skyrim dark and cloudy perhaps?

A few of the play through authors ran into vampires. One of them described the vampires to have purple faces, so this would lead me to believe that they are not identical to Oblivion vampires, and maybe this is their version of Volkihar, although I would think an icy blue skin would be more appropriate from the lore I read.

They infected the player with a life drain spell, I think before you had to be cut in melee combat to catch the disease, so that seems to have changed too.

They have been found in dungeons, so if they are under lakes, they are not limited to that. I find it unlikely, as making breakable ice/destructive environments has been confirmed not in the game. And game play wise, if the player got pulled under the ice, Bethesda would have to make a way out or it would be way too cheap of a kill for the Vampires. So I'd say forget the whole ice stuff, it's in the lore but will not be implemented. Plus I've never seen a vampire outdoors in TES. Mostly because they didn't bother to give them decent AI to make them go to a coffin during the day or something, and they were too lazy to give NPC vampires sun damage either, so they avoided this by just sticking them in caves and have them lurk 24/7. I hope they do a better job this time.

I think they will be in game cause they are Skyrims vampires after all and they are just too awesome to not be implemented. I dont think its that hard to do frozen lake stuff , hole in lake->little bit swimming-> go out of the water in vamp lair, easy ;x. But i dont think you can become one of them, i think bethesda will go easier way and bring back gay vampires from Cyrodil.

I think that would be sweet if you could be pulled under the ice to Volkhair and would be infected by the bite right the way. You could then kill the wampire but anyway your gonna become one of them. That would begin some kind of quest, maybe for Volkhairs, they would know you are not yet fully Volkhair so you could do some stuff for them. Or time quest, you have to get the cure before you become fully a monster.
Anyway having Volkhair powers you could go trough the frozen lake

I think it would be cool too. Creepy as hell wondering if something is going to grab you from down below, or that something is lurking under the ice. As long as there was a hole in the ice somewhere I suppose it could work.
