Staves as walking staff while not in use.

Post » Mon Oct 17, 2011 6:13 pm

Would you like Magic stave's to function as walking sticks while not in use? I think it would look cool if the PC and NPC's did this instead of strapping it across the back. Magi are supposed to be physically frail anyways so it kinda makes sense. Gandalf doesn't keep his staff strapped across his back...........
What do you good people think?

I want to feel like a powerful warrior/mage not a 50 yr old retired librarian...

If you cant see your own feet/legs then I sure as hell dont want to see any damn walking stick.

If you are running around you would probably not be wanting to be holding a staff, so strapping it to your back is probably the most logical thing to do.

My Argonian mage will be 20. He's more than capable of walking on his own two feet. Besides if he gets tired he can just summon an Atronoch to carry him.

it would look good, but it should not be an effect for every staff. maybe have the old staves straqed across your back and have some (with diffrent designs so you can tell which is which) that you walk with

You could lift it slightly of the ground or hold it somewhat parallel to the ground while running or sprinting......

My dude's going to be 30 years old max. Unless he can become a cripple in game (soooo restarting) there'd be no reason for him to use a walking stick. Now, if I could convert the walking stick into a bindle to carry more goods out of a cave, then that'd be a good use for it.

Well then he could carry it as a symbol that he is a wizard. He does not have to use it as a crutch.........More like a walking accessory.

I like the idea of staffs being used as a walking stick when not in use.

I don't plan to have an old mage; but the way I see it is the stick is supposed to make people think that you are weak when in reality you are a power wizard.

I think it could work several ways:
  • Maybe 2 handed staves will work as a walking stick when just walking
  • If walking then it will act as a walking stick; if you put it away (such as putting a sword in it's holster) it will then be across you back
  • As someone else mentioned; maybe some staves work as a walking stick but others don't

Personally I like the idea of if you are still holding it then while walking the animation will be like a walking stick, but if you put it away then it will be across you back...

I think staves and stuff shouldn't be sheathable. Like the spears in assassin's creed. Or!!!! Like sheaths should be items that you can buy or find. But I always hated seeing staves on the back just floating on my spine...

I think people are picturing this wrong. Its more of a hiking staff than a hunch back reliance, stops you from slipping in snow, mud, ice etc.

The Staffs should use the same type of mechanics as the one's off Two Worlds 2.
Look them up on youtube or something, and you'll see what I mean.
And I only mean the movement, not how you cast magic or whatever. The way they implemented magic was awful, in my opinion.

Honestly, I'd like it being used as a 'walking stick'. I'd love it if, when the staff is the only weapon equipped, primary fire 'activates' the staff's power, left trigger swings it like a club, and pulling both blocks. Just like a real staff. Minus the magic. :/

Because God knows I am going to attempt a "Gandalf" Sword + Staff. I hope they included that option to indeed use your staff as some kind of supportive stick, since it conveys this aura that you look frail but could unleash the fury of a thousand dragons at any given time. At any rate, I will miss the feature if it isn't there but won't break the game for me.

It'd be a nice touch if your playing a decaying old mage.

Yes I'd like to see some more magical animations because vanilla Oblivion staff animations looks too much like using guns, personally I use animation replacer thats affect several NPC groups and player by adding them various different custom animations from
