Help a girl out with her first character? :)

Hello everyone (or whomever actually looks at this)

I got this game as a gift and I was wondering if I could get some help on making a character. I actually know nothing about it at all. I'm sick of mage types and a stealthy thief kind of sounds fun. However, I figure out what the heck is going on in a much slower speed than most so I need something that won't add to fustration. If I just die all the time, I won't play and this game looks fun. I've been looking around and came up with something but if anyone feels that something else would be better for a first character it would be great. (even if its a mage)

Here is what I came up with on my own;

Dark Elf or Wood Elf Female

Stealth

Birthsign: Thief

Marksman
Sneak
Blade
Security
Light Armor
Mysticism
Restoration

Hi Steph, Welcome to the forum.

Have a http://images.uesp.net//c/c4/Fishystick.jpg. I never received the coveted Fishy Stick, for a new member. Alas, your the first I, that have the pleasure of giving one.

This is my favorite game of all time. For a first time playthrough, the best advise is none at all. Nothing will provide a better experience, than going through the game, experiencing and discovering things on your own. If it gets too hard...Adjust the difficulty bar. No shame in that.

Here is a good place to start, for http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:First_Time_Players.

There is nothing wrong with the stock build you have selected. Just let your character evolve into what it was meant to be.

Good luck, and keep us posted on your character progress.

A very similar build to a character I use. Wood Elf will be better for stealthy characters. I have a lot of fun as thief classes and your setup will work well. Stealth can be a big help for a first character, helping you avoid situations you're unsure of and giving you a chance to assess your options before getting in a fight.

---Take Note. Depending how serious a gamer you are, you may want to check out the 'Leveling' page on the Elder Scrolls wiki. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Leveling
Oblivion has some issues with the leveling system that can cause much frustration later in the game. Sometimes it causes problems, sometimes it works out okay, but it's something you may want to be aware of.
