Melee Combat...

Post » Tue Oct 18, 2011 7:25 pm

If you have seen, or played dead island..you'll know what im talking about, if you haven't..go google a video.

Aiming where your weapon lands in dead island mainly just cuts off limbs or sends them moving in desired direction but the way it could be applied to skyrim is;

- Arrows to the head actually hurt more then anywhere else on the body and not being the same as being shot in the foot, with sneak attacks being 1 hit kills.

Besides that, blows landing to certain parts hurt more then others like you would expect it does, the combat would be very entertaining, remember that video where the pc is fighting some shield enemy and you actually see him slit his throat? well now he would be dead.

If parts of the body deal different damage and you have the option to aim at those parts then melee combat would be very entertaining, there would be a flow to combat, block, shield bash, aim ur sword at your opponents hand ( disarms him ) then slice horizontally and cut his throat.

And not just....mash right trigger mash left trigger...generically swing swords like an idiot, dealing the same amount of damage when hitting different parts of the body.

Skyrims melee combat would be a game of its own. Why o why wasn't this ever planned....?

I would like the aiming part but dead island didnt really do it right... still felt akward... If something like Move could make motion sensing work extremely well then that would be amazing..

It was probably considered (especially since these same producers used locational damage in their previous title). I think that it was omitted, because it would have taken away from the fast-paced and seamless combat. It would also compound issues for development and game-balance design. I for one thought it was cool to have locational damage in Fallout, but for TES it would need to be done better. If they ever do implement locational damage in TES, I hope that it is tied into a single specific skill, such as "Martial Arts" or some equivalent name. The skill should determine the percent chance of hitting the specific limb calculated against the skills, defense, and level of the enemy. It could even have very limited activation, even more so than VATS, and function on the same button as Dragon Shouts for example.

I hated DIs aim controls. It was too complicated.

Aiming where your blow lands is def out of the picture...but changing the damage dealt to certain areas of the body couldnt be that hard to fix, or release a patch for?

Atleast make headshots do double damage or something come on!

Ah. The headshot question? Dunno. I don't know why this was ever planned.

ignoring the kill-moves, I would expect attacks to the head and torso more damaging than to the extremities. Oh well. Even more: with armor getting more and more uniformed under "one piece," besides your helmet, gloves, and boots, there's even less ability to include location-shots.

Locational damage does not particularly fit in TES.

Think more to the lines of Fallout 3, you could cripple limbs and headshots did a lot more damage. That's what I'd like to see. Dead Island is just a big disappointment and I'd like it to stay out of my GOTY. :toughninja:

Not that important to the scheme of a TES game but perhaps in the future.

Directional seems like it would be a massive pain with more than 1 enemy on the screen.

Yes, yes it was.

I just want to be able to shoot a guy in the head with an arrow and drop him, or do considerably more damage then his body. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Locational damage does not particularly fit in TES.

Maybe. There were some primitive examples; hitting a specific area of the body damaged that piece of armor. Enemies always seemed to damage a certain area, depending where they hit. I guess in this case, locational damage only affected armor, and then indirectly the player. Like i said earlier-ish. Only five pieces of armor, unless gloves are one-piece.

I would rather have damage based on where I strike my opponent. It would make the game a bit more immersive in my opinion.
