Leveling too fast?

Post » Wed Oct 19, 2011 5:09 pm

every game that involves leveling up does that....

Well I know that. He was concerned that it will be very fast to level up so I reminded him about that little tidbit. Sorry if it made you slightly irritated.

If xp is something like perception of time (growing older and wiser) the opposite is true: When I was a kid, there was a whole [censored] year between each christmas. Now as an advlt (and then some), it's christmas every [censored] year! :P

I think he's saying that it's fairly easy to gain basic understanding and skill in an area, while mastering the skill takes many, many years. It shouldn't take too long for someone to learn their 24 major/minor scales on piano, but it would take many years to master Chopin.

Where was it stated that the other 10 wouldn't affect the skill xp rate? I'd just figured that they gave each of the 13 birthsigns a different set of 6 skills.

You talking about Oblivion? It was my understanding there are no birthsigns this time around.

Can't remember, but it's ridiculous to think the atronarch, mage and apprentice would have a "different set of 6 skills". They are all full mages, none of them put something from the others into themselves.

No, but it was stated that there are 13 different guardian stones. Given that the three that we know are Warrior, Mage, and Thief, and that there were 13 birthsigns in Morrowind/Oblivion including The Warrior, The Mage, and The Thief... Well I think you get my point.

Early on, you level fast. Later on, you level slow. Just like in real life.

Yep. When I was a baby I caught on real fast. Now that I'm 2 weeks from being 27 I level real slow.

-Huh? The stones build up? Or the skills build up? AFAIK all the stones do is make your skills increase faster, and that each of the 13 different stones affects a different set of 6 skills.
-Jack of all trades doesn't necessarily mean mastering all skills. That said I think it's pretty likely that you won't even reach level 50 if you only focus on a small set of skills.
-Not sure what you're asking here either... Going to level 50 vs 70? I don't know what you're asking, or why it makes a difference if you're on console.
-Then be happy with the game as it is. Not trying to sound like an "elitist," but you're playing on a one-size-fits-all device - you get one-size-fits-all games.

-I thought I read somewhere you don't have to use the stones, and say you bypass them 5 times you will get 5x the pump up in your ratings when you do decide to use them.
-Oh
-Too lazy to explain what I mean.
-Yes you sound like an elitist, for good reason. Shove it up your ... nose. Because you're allowed to sound that way, with a better system and all. Yes I'm jealous. Shove that up your .. erm, USB drive.

Hey, you're the one saying my system is "better." All I implied is that my system allows customization ;)

I would definitely like it if the guardian stones could do something other than just increase the skill xp rate. But, for example, I can't think of an overwhelming reason The Atronach would help you with Illusion or Enchanting. Not that any of the other 12 skills fit much better, but I still see it as a possibility.

A number of posts have been wished into the cornfield. A lock was requested for this thread, but after some clean-up, I think we can give it another go.

Constructive criticism, and a voicing of valid concerns are always welcome on this forum. Disagreeing with others' opinions is also okay here (heck, that's... kind of what an internet forum is all about.) Doing so in a hostile or disrespectful manner is not.

Anyway, nothing to see here. Carry on.

Ok, back to the business at hand. If the other stones scattered around Skyrim are the other "birthsigns" that would be cool. Would make a nice break from just a lot of stones all marked either warrior, mage or stealth.

I don't want to be a jack of all trades for making level/skill progression harder. We will wait and see

I see what you mean, I don't like classes, but I want my characters to have a central "theme" so to speak.

From what I understand, levels 1-50 will go by like levels 1-25 in OB. Then, levels 50-70 will be a grind.

I'm fine with this.

Stones other than the first three give powers, not boosts, for example :
Spoiler
the Ritual Stone gives an area raise zombie spell
.
Also, that 30% (or 20% according to some previews) isn't a lot, major skill and specialised in OB gave an xp boost of 122%.

The worls is not so over-archingly scaled, levelling up will actually be a reward this time. Wander off the path a few times, get totally butchered by trolls, a few extra levels might not be so unwelcome.

I'm just wondering where are the walls that give the words for the Summon Storm shout. I have got to have that just as soon as humanly possible.

Yeah I'm concerned aswell... but I guess they want the early leveling to be faster so you can get some perks and start to define your character, im sure once you get past 20 or 30 it will much harder.

The other thing of course, is that they have said it takes the same time to get to level 50 as it took to get to level 25 in Oblivion. All down to individual style, but it took me a long time to get to level 25, and forever to get to 35.

The main difference though, is the world is scaled to 50 this time, in OB the maximum extent of level scaling was 30, when some quest rewards, particularly for the DB, topped out. After that it was just certain monsters getting more hit points, and we know how that turned out, goblin warlords I am looking at you. Hopefully now we can get to level 50 or maybe a few more, and still find some appropriate challenges.
