Video game ads in movie previews,

Post » Wed Oct 19, 2011 11:57 pm

Anyone else see this coming in the near future? Graphics are getting so good (on PC anyway, you console players ruin everything. ;) jk) that a modern game play footage can nearly fool the untrained eye. The video game industry is also more profitable than the movie industry already. So, how long until a video game trailer is slipped into the mix before a fast & furious movie and all the meatballs go "Oooh can't wait to see that movie"?

Any guesses? Think Skyrim would trick anyone? Think it would hit its target audience?

I saw a massive Battlefield 3 billboard on I-5 in L.A. this morning.

I think advertising works, and is underutilized in the video game industry.

Its a comedy that came out early this year. Besides the point, though. :]

Already been done. One of the Halo games showed a preview before a movie. May have been one of their live-action trailers for Halo 3, I'm not certain.

Would it bother me if it happened for Skyrim? Nah. Will it happen? Nah, it'd be odd timing.

If a Skyrim ad was played in a movie theatre, it wouldn't be flattering to have its low res textures and console graphics stretched out on the huge screen.

Back in mid 2004 Halo 2 was showing a trailer in theaters. It was full trailer using in game footage and was used to kick off the ilovebees ARG (alternate reality game). They have been doing it with Halo and other games since.

I for one am all for this as I would rather see a good video game trailer than 50% of the crap movie trailers out there.

Think a trailer for a game will ever try to pass itself off as a movie trailer to show off graphics?
