Houses

Would it be like Oblivion and you'll talk to a count/chief and buy a house?

Discuss.

It better not. I had to wait until they wake up in order to buy a house. I think that all houses should be able to be upgraded though.

Likwise.

I also think that this time, they keep the house furnished so you buy it full price.

I didn't like Oblivion's way of doing houses. I much prefer you to have to go to a bank, which I hope is in Skyrim, and buy the house there. You should then be able to upgrade and purchase different things for it.

If it turns into Fable's market system, I think I'd want to kill someone.

LOL, the Morrowind way:

Step 1: Walk in the house you want.

Step 2: Make sure the people who live there isn't important. (optional)

Step 3: Assasinate them.

Step 4: Dispose of the body. (optional)

Step 5: FREE HOUSE!

Awesome system engaged:

There may be empty, abandoned houses in cities, these can be bought by players from the city.

People own homes, you can buy the deed, where they might buy some abandoned home, or dissapear from the game (You have to be careful who you buy from)
You can kill people and buy their home from the city at a auction.

Super Quest!!!: Build your own house in a designated spot in town, hire a architect, builders, takes a year to finish!!!

I like your idea but why can't we Hire people to build us a house in a place we pick in the country? I think that would be cool you could pick from diferent modles and customize it from there.

Buy space, build custom home like the sims or just buy a house already made.

I think there should be more than one house available per major settlement. You should also be able to sell your house to a potential buyer and work out a deal or something, and you should also be able to build houses or at least be able to hire someone to.

I definitely had my fair share of summer homes in Morrowind...

I actually didn't mind Oblivion's housing system too much. Just allow more upgrades, more options, etc. to further customize our homes. Of course I wouldn't mind another Battlehorn Castle in Skyrim (possible DLC? :D}!

I admit, I think I liked Morrowind's houses better than Oblivion's. They were much harder to get, and generally impractical and inaccessible - but building your own castle was so cool.

In an ideal universe, I think, we could have both. Houses in towns you can buy, and strongholds you can build up.

All those buildings are amazing.
I liked the way Oblivion worked to be honest, it was a bit dull; but it worked.
It's not a huge part of the game for me anyway, so as long as they look good, I don't mind where I put my things.

I liked the Oblivion way.

Yes, in a perfect world there would be more options, there is always room for more options, but if they reproduce this again I wouldn't complain.

I'm not particularly picky, more options and more customization would be nice though. What I'd really like to see, however, would be the building of a settlement like in Bloodmoon. But with even more options.

That was a wonderful part of Morrowind. And one of the most frustrating parts of Oblivion, even if I killed the owner, the entire house was still "owned," So I hope the in Skyrim they'll go back to allowing us to take over any dwelling. I don't know if I want it to go to auction later as some have suggested, I don't think I really want the Fable approach to buying up a whole town.

I just want to be able to sleep in a bed, without being told I can't, even though the owner is dead. I'd also like the storage to be safe and not reset every three days. Then we can Roleplay any lifestyle we want.

I played a doppleganger.

Step 1: Use preexisting character to scout a house, note name and face/hair of resident.

Step 2: Make a charactaer identical to said resident.

Step 3: Kill said resident.

Step 4: Your character is now canon.

I'm curious what the historical precedent for home sales is. Obviously there is a lore basis for having a bank, but somehow that seems too "modern," never mind having a "realty guild." I think Oblivion's system was alright, except that there was only one house in each town. You should be able to offer NPCs money for their house, many would probably be insulted, but some might be down on their luck. If you see the perfect cottage in the country, some poor farmer probably wouldn't mind relocating as long as he was given enough money to buy a new plot, plus a little extra for his trouble.

And as others side, hiring people to build a house for you. Really shouldn't be too hard. Find a location. Determine size and style of house. Hire appropriate number of people. Give them money for payment and supplies.

Generally, I think most privately owned land was given to lords as payment for military service to a king. The lords in turn could parcel off small parts to minor lords or wealthy folks, or simply rent it out to peasant farmers.

Yeah, I should be able to go to a bank, or see some kind of person in charge of real estate. And I shouldn't have to get his disposition up. That was just stupid in Oblivion. I'm paying for the darn thing! Perhaps I could get it cheaper with disposition, but I should be able to buy a house with 20 disposition...

And I want completely unfurnished houses, but I want the ability to buy any piece of furniture I want, and place it seperatly in my home. I don't wanna have to buy premade houses, if I don't want to. Perhaps, though, I could ALSO buy the upgrades, with some additional fees, if I'm too lazy to do it myself.
