Dunmer and the Aldmeri Dominion?

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 12:42 pm

What's the official stance of the Dunmer regarding the Aldmeri Dominion? Who do they favour more between the Dominion and the Empire?

I know that the Dunmer are instinctively cautious of any race other than their own, but are they mostly loyal towards the Empire? It seems that way from what Skyrim tells me as well as Morrowind (the Empire had a strong presence in Vvardenfell), but I imagined it would proably be the opposite since the Dominion is made up of fellow Elven races. Are relations between the Altmer and Dunmer a little frosty?

Kind of curious since I don't know the official Dunmer stance on the Dominion, and the Dunmer happens to be by far my favourite TES race. Any lore junkies have an answer?

Also, how does the Dunmer view the current weakened Empire?

The Dunmer may as well be Man to the Altmer. Worship of Daedra may as well be the worship of Talos/Lorkhan in their eyes, and that is a unforgivable act. Not sure what the Dunmer stance on the Altmer of Summerset though. If given the chance, I'm sure the Thalmor would use the Dunmer if they proved to be a asset.

Really, after the red year, I suspect they are overall most sympathetic towards the Stormcloaks and their plight.

Though, forced to choose, I'd say they prefer the Empire. It's agents ended the Blight and the Oblivion crisis.

Pretty sure the Altmer are never going to forgive the Dunmer for giving the Numidium to the empire.

I dunno, the Dunmer are far too full of pride to allow themselves to be used.

I'd like to think the Dunmer are on the side of the Men against the Thalmor, but I know it's probably more realistic to assume they are just neutral, too focused on recovery of Morrowind to think about anything else.

They'll probably sit it out. That's what I'd do if I were an almost-destroyed nation surrounded by foes.

Yeah for sure, although I'd imagine that the Men and them are starting to get on friendlier terms, at least I'd hope so.

Altmer position on Dunmer: screw those guys. They chose not to be part of our society, and thus brought their fate upon themselves.

Dunmer position on Altmer: AHHHHHH! HELL! WHAT! FIRE! ROCKS! MY HOME IS A CRAB SHELL! ZOMBIE CLIFFRACERS!

Perfidy! Those are good, honest rocks! And fire! Decent, hardworking, Daedra-fearing fiery rocks. And we're quite content with our crab-houses, thank you very much!

Or alternatively, they would see that an agent of Azura ended the blight. I doubt they would thank the Empire for that, the Empire did absolutely nothing except send a guy or girl over that somewhat resembled a prophecy. They didn't even believe it was true... for the Dunmer it was easy, if not that Nerevarine then another and another and another until eventualy Azura would have an agent that would fufill the prophecy.

As for who the Dunmer like best, I think they hate them all. The Dunmer never were great fans of the Empire, and they never were great fans of the Nords either. Still with the problems in Morrowind it seems highly unlikely to me that they would gather an army and fight anyone, with the exception of the Argonians but then just to kick them out of Morrowind.

Aren't Dunmer headed in the other direction from the Aldmeri Dominion? I mean, metaphysically? With Mundus-as-test as opposed to the Altmer's Mundus-as-trap?

"The basis for the teachings of the Prophet Veloth, founder of present day Morrowind and father of Dunmeri culture. Veloth describes the Psijic Endeavor as a process of glorious apotheosis, where time itself is bent inward and outward into 'a shape that is always new'." and all of that.

Would that even make a difference to present-day Dunmer? I mean, even the roughed-up Empire is seemingly okay with the banning of Talos worship, except for some Nords. Crap, whole groups of people are fine with the destruction of heroes that become founders that become gods. (It seems like the Dominion is having some success on retroactively snipping out men at their mythic buds.)

I'm still boggled by that, sorry. I think Dunmer may just be more concerned about surviving now. Practical things. Maybe a few offshoots will join either side, believing one thing or another. Unless certain divine figures are still knocking around somewhere. :hopes desperately for news of Vivec:
