I have no idea where to begin. I just want to know some basic tips about the game in general so I'm not completely lost if I decide to start.

Remember the standard rule of any RPG is to save alot and save often.

When the game start, one can config the control to that of the WASD players.

Also, if one is answering the questionnaire in the character making section, try to answer Ebony Dagger or Silver Staff if given the chance. These can hurt certain creatures, espeally the imp in the first dungeon. If not, one can just run past the imp instead.

When one get to town, try to to buy a Cart and/or Horse right away if ya have the money for it. Do not buy two of the same ie 2 Carts.

Take ya time on making ya toon to how one want.

One can punch a lock doors open if ya don't have an Open Spell or svck at Lockpicking.

Do not rest in town as that count as vagrancy and ya will be arrest. Grab an inn instead.

To use the weapon, just hold the "Swing Weapon" button and move ya mouse around.

There are time limits in quest, so be aware of that.

Anyways, good luck on ya first gameplay of Daggerfall.

Go into the options and set it to mouse-based view and full screen or you'll probably hate it pretty fast. And you may want to look up a walkthrough on how to get out of the first dungeon, for a beginning dungeon it's fairly long and brutal.

To add to this, once you pay for the room in the Inn, you can just sleep anywhere in the building and you'll automatically go to your room/bed. You don't activate a bed to sleep.

It is also vital that you know all of your controls, and it is good to take your time getting used to them. Also it is a good idea to keep a spell ready when ever possible. Finally it helps to move some of the more vital controls such as jumping, and looking up and down to quick access keys because the default makes them kind of inconvenient to get to in an emergency.

To expand on this point. It's quite important to take note of whether you've been given a quest with a time limit, or an open-ended one. You'll be given letters from time to time. Always read them immediately to see if there's something you have to do within a certain time, or if it's something you can put off until you're ready. The main quest has both types of these. The letter from Lady Brisienna needs action when you get it. It's a generous time limit, so you can finish any quest you've started, but don't start a new one. On the other hand, the letter from Morghia can be ignored for years.

Never rebind the attack key. Things break nicely if it's not RMB.

Those little crypts all over the map (deep red) are good practice, since they're only a couple rooms. All dungeons respawn immediately on reentry.

If you want to use magic a lot you absolutely need the "increased magery (3x INT)" advantage. You don't get very many spell points.

I would like to think that I know a lot about Daggerfall but there is one thing that I can't figure out, how do you rank up in guilds? I have done at least 20-30 quest in the Mages guild and have not received the second rank. How many quest do you have to do?
