Please make Morrowind available on GOG.com

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 9:16 am

With the upcoming release of Skyrim, I think it is time for grandpa Morrowind to be made available on GOG.com next to its good neighbor Neverwinter Nights and be unleashed of its DRM chains.
Of course you're under no obligation to do so, but it'd be a gesture of good will to the community.
I'd be interested to hear opinions from other people. Do you agree, don't you care, or are you vehemently against it?

They still make money off the game. Why would they give it away for free?

GOG is not a site for free games.

Damn straight! I'm a pretty active member of GOG.

I think $9.99 is a decent price-point for Morrowind nowadays. It's been about $20 for so long, in most places.

Well what can I say, I don't know GOG, but to me, "releasing a game from its DRM chains" suggested giving it away for free. Sorry for jumping to conclusions.

I'll rephrase my reply.

They still make 20$ off the game, why would they give it away for 10$? :P

And even if Bethesda would, Zenimax might not like it.

Funny enough, Morrowind got more expensive with time. The GOTY version had already been available for about $10 for years, or $8 on Steam, so I'm not sure why it became more expensive again. I can only guess that it saw some kind or renaissance recently.

Otherwise, it would be a good addition to GOG. Stuff like NWN Diamond Edition or Gothic2 Gold Edition are already on there. Maybe, they wait for the 10 year mark.

That's not really a given. The Witcher 2 was sold without DRM on GOG from Day 1 on, and it was removed after a few days from the DVD copies, too. The still sold about 1 million copies, and that's for PC only.

It would be nice on GoG, but unlikely. It sells on Steam for 19.95 approx US dollars so why would they undercut Steam?
Just hang on until the holidays and Morrowind will be on sale on Steam, probably 5 or 10 dollars off. Or check with used
game vendors online or offline. I am going the Morrowind route myself based on personal recommendations of gamers
I know. So I might pay full boogie of $20. But right now the Steam servers are overloaded it appears.

UESP is also overloaded or being pinged to death, don't know which.

gixG17 has an excellent set of commented play videos of Morrowind on youtube.
