Random sounds in Morrowind will continuously play from the right side of my headphones at an increased volume. They will still persist even if I set all of the in-game audio sliders to 0. This most often happens with the sound of water, and I don't have to be near water for it to occur. The "click" sound you hear when selecting something in a menu is also played on one side of my headphones, but unlike the ambience of water it doesn't persist. This happens every time I launch Morrowind, and it has made the game unplayable.

I have tried re-installing my audio drivers (they are up to date), as well as the game. I use an Asus DG sound card. How might I fix this?

Note: The problem stops when I turn Software Mode on. A good clue.
