Any Graphics Mods?

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 7:48 am

I am trying to find some mods to get this game to look better, I haven't really been able to find much.

Also, any kind of combat system mods out there for this game?

Hmm, we're a bit short in the combat system part, but you can try one of the avaliable animation replacers, and the combat enhanced mod. I like the 1st person animation replacer by Darknut and the animation compilation a lot.

About the graphic mods part, by all the gods, you've never went to planet elder scrolls, tesnexus and the insane amount of modding sites for MW out there, have you? One can't possibly link the ammount of graphic enhancers avaliable for Morrowind in a single night's time. Google it and go nuts, my friend.

This guide is slightly outdated, but it is a good starting point for a comprehensive graphics overhaul.

So how long did you look for?!

Planetelderscrolls as well as TESNexus has various sections, one of which is for graphics etc, if you take a look through there, you will find plenty.

If you're just looking for a straightforward "all in one" graphic mod, here you go: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1216870-relz-morrowind-overhaul-sounds-graphics/page__hl__morrowind+sound+and+graphics

Oh, nice lists, people!

To the OP, bear in mind that Morrowind its already a pretty demmanding game on your machine, since the code is really badly optmized. Don't be surprised if, after installing a couple of those overhauls, it ends up running slower than Skyrim.

The Graphic Overhaul will slow you down, because it requires MGE and adds new meshes (trees, grass)
But simple Texture replacers have practically no impact on performance what so ever.

Well, if you know your machine is older than most, dont tell people will it kill performance. My computer is 3 years old now and runs all the graphical stuff perfectly fine. The only things that causes me major slow downs is alot of background scripts running or distant land cranked up.

Now you don't get all personal on me, are you listening?

I run the game fine, with lots of graphic replacers, but high-rez textures are huge memory eaters. As you said, MGE it's usually the main problem with low fps, and I agree that if people use it with caution, the perfomance impact shouldn't be that noticeable.

Yes thats true. My card has 512mb and it seems to work just fine with the textures. The only time I have noticed bumping up against it is actually when looking at folders full of thousands of textures. You shouldnt play MW with all huge textures anyway due to that glitch where if all the textures in a scene are 1024, sometimes none of them will load.
I assume though that less memory may mean you crash faster due to the memory leak that I have heard MW has. I suppose all this doesnt matter much anyway, the longer time goes on, the less crappy computers there will be in the world. I plan on switching mine out once I get a job(soon I hope, haha).

Wow, I never knew you could mod Morrowind to look so good! I wish I knew about this before Skyrim was released... Now I'm torn between modding Morrowind or playing Skyrim!

Morrowind rivals plenty of games now for graphics. The only thing missing is good mapping and that will be rectified once one of the 2 engine rewrites gets finished. Currently, the best mapping is Vurt's on the rocks rock replacers.

Same boat here. You'd be surprised to see how outrageous are the prices we pay for hardware in my country! I'm putting my hopes on the MGE XE mod in the meanwhile. :)

@smips: Yeah, it can look pretty good! There where a few mods I wasn't aware in the links posted here as well. I must update that huge .7z file where I backup my Morrwind folder. :liplick:
