No Music!

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 9:48 am

I already posted a thread about this in the morrowind section because it also affectts that and I also contacted bethesda support 3 times and only got 1 response. My Oblivion music just wont play. I've turned the volume up and down. The other sounds work fine. My morrowind music wont play either and that causes it to crash. Basically, one time I used a program called livestream procaster while playing morrowind, and it crashed, and has never worked since. I have uninstalled the program and it still is broken. It also causes my fraps to only record audio, WMM wont make videos, and WMP will only play some files. Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sounds like it could be a codec issue. Uninstalling Livestream may have have also removed some of the software used to play mp3 and video files.

I would suggest making a restore point in windows and then installing http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm.

Edit: HeyYou's suggestion makes a lot of sense, might want to check that first

First thing I would try is installing the latest and greatest version of windows media player. If you already have the latest version, uninstall it, then reinstall it. (if it's a file association thing, that should fix it.) If that doesn't help, get the klite basic codec pack, and install that. Make sure the installer is set to repair broken codecs, and also that FFDShow is set to ignore oblivion, both audio, and video. (which I think are both the default settings.)

I can't find a link for the new WMP because on the site it claims that WMP comes with all vista. I also downloaded the klite pack. I can't seem to find anything about Oblivion, should I uncheck the one that says Bink?

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/windows-media-player.

You are looking for configurations for FFShow. it's one of the codecs that klite installs. There should be an exception list for it, or some such. (should be in there by default anyway....) Not sure on bink, just accept whatever defaults the installer offers.

It is asking me to choose file associations and I just chose the default and now it's asking for speaker configuration. I am scared I might screw something up. Also, that site doesnt provide a link for a vista download. It just tells you what it comes in.
