Inventory icon

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 7:24 am

I'm using Gimp. Please explain why my icon is nearly all white.
I started with an existing icon. I deleted what was there and pasted in my own white image. It has no background (checkerboard). It is saved as DXT3.
Do I need the alpha channel to be a black version of my otherwise white image? Or should the background for the alpha channel be white?
thanks

Have a look http://www.fookunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=448. I think step 5 is where you are going wrong.

Thanks. The easiest way to do it was only work in the alpha channel. Delete what is there, paste what you want, save as DXT3 with mipmaps. Works.

One slight remaining problem. My icon is too bright. If I compare with others in gimp, they are all translucent (semi-transparent). How can I achieve that with gimp? The opacity of the layer does not seem to make a difference in game.

Looks like I was just loading the wrong file. Changing the opacity in the layer did it.
