So I made a program...

I made a program that emulates a server terminal with a little extra features you'd expect to find after a wasteland computer scientist ghoul from Robco itself continued development. Progress is slow, as expected when you're battling more then just bad company stocks these days. So he made a network spanning across the wastes, it's still in development but it's a start.
Features:
Access to DC terminal, which has access to all kinds of research and features
Access to Lucky 38 Terminal, which has access to e caps
Access to a broadcasting station, which plays and receives music and sounds
Access to a public station, which is supposed to be accessible for everyone throughout the wasteland.
Imitate sending and receiving e-caps (caps over a wire like credit transactions)
Access to Telehack.com which is a telnet client, but it's nicknamed NCR entertainment network =P
Access to fallout.mud which is a telnet client, I can't provide the password but I do know it to play it
Access to the actual command prompt, that's not an emulator and it's the real command prompt from windows so no horseplay.
Access to the bottle cap calculator
The last feature is the feeling of being a Network Admin for an actual fallout server terminal!

Installing:
Extract folder named HQ into your C:\ drive by itself.
Simply full install lynx file name " lynx_setup-2.8.5rel-1 " for correct one.
Lynx isn't necessary, it's a text based web browser but my program calls onto it as though it's imbedded. It'll return an error if its not there.
If your default media player is not windows media player you will get an error stating to set the default to windows media player, just say yes for this time.
Terminal.bat is the main file to run.
Non XP users, right click Terminal.bat and set it to run in XP PRO service pack 2 for compatibility. It is programmed under XP batch cmd and vbs scripts.
For best experience, run in full screen mode. Simply right click the top bar when you run the program, click onto properties and locate full view, set to yes under all titles in this name.
-------------------------

For Board admins, there is no virus or spyware of any kind. All .bat files are readable by opening them up with a text editor prior to executing. That goes the same with the .vbs scripts, which all they do is tell the player to play the music hidden and close the music player when done. I have it to play the music hidden so it gives a feeling that the music is coming from the batch program since batch programs cannot play music within itself. There is no hidden malicious code or hidden scripting that can be looked upon as malware of any kind. Run your checks if you feel needing to. Normally when I have a file I want to scan, I run a botnet search, 3 anti virus searches and normally have a website scan it too.

For Developers and code junkies, your welcome to tweak it up to whatever you want. Just leave the original credit to me for original set up, and any additional changes are liable to you and credit to you. Do not redo it and claim it's all yours or sell it. Don't do anything illegal or stupid (subject to my opinion ).
I also left a format folder to make it easier to add on more selections to the main menu. Just copy and paste and work form there. term0 folder isn't really necessary besides the text document.

I'll post the media fire link and wait to see what kind of reaction you guys give and what I should tweak. I plan on having it interactive to the point where you have to decide what to do for inbox messages and whatnot. I'll post an update by the end of this week hopefully. This is a beta, so I expect some things needing change. If there's a storyline writer who wants to pitch in let me know! I want this to be fun for everyone.

Here's the link to HQ folder

Here's the link to lynx browser for convenience of not finding download file in google, I added it to my mediafire account. Again it's not necessary, but cool to implement.

It's pretty cool, definitely has the "wasteland server" feel to it and I spent a good thirty minutes messing around with it. Not extraordinarily detailed and seems to have some pretty...hmm..."weak" text so to speak, but definitely cool. Other then finishing the written material, I'm curious on how you were going to expand it, I could see a bunch of ways you could go, but I'm just curious as to what you had in mind.

I understand, the text needs worked on. That's something I'll try to figure out this week. The reason being is because I'm not a good story writer. Been rusty. What I want to do is have it so you have to fill in the blanks to the story and messages. Then there should be a way for me to program reactions based on your decisions. Also Incorporate a real cap counter for you to monitor the caps in and out of areas and able to assist them based on what you want to send. I already have the e cap simulator. Also incorporate some kind of ftp client to my computer so the message boards are live for everyone, not just your local computer simulating it. These will take a couple more weeks, but I'll work on figuring out some kind of reaction system out filling in the blanks.

Essentially, a terminal will be a real terminal if everyone can access the same text files within this program. I'll update this board as necessary. =)

I don't know if you knew about it, but me and a bunch of other people once started on a Fallout Text Game in Batch (Here on the forums.)
It was really cool, but I went on vacation and weren't able to contribute for some time and the thing died :(

Definatelly cool to see what you have done ;)

There will be an update this weekend!

Small patches here and there, added background music.

Most important thing is the addition of a fight simulator that I'm still fixing up. So far it works, but you always win because of math. Working on making a random sequence generator on how many hit points it takes away. Also figuring out a way to add an actual value of caps that you have, to take away from and add to based on the quests that you do.

Another thing I need help from the community with. I'm working on making mini quests in which the player, you, get to decide on major decisions and consequences of that.
I have the structure down good. Here's an example on how it should look like. I need mini quests for DC, Mojave wasteland, and 10 anywhere in between. Writers give me some good stuff here and I'll give you credit in my program!

Reports (Contains 10 mini quests per area as mentioned above)

Report 1
"Insert problem here"
What would you like to do?
Choice 1
Choice 2
Choice 3
Choice 4
notes
exit

Choice 1

Choice 2

Choice 3

Choice 4

Notes are just a way for the player to keep track of what their decision was or any notes they want to add. I might make one text document per report or per area such as one per DC, New Vegas, and one general one for areas in between.

So give me some good stories! Thanks and have a great day! I can include more then 4 choices, the number of choices is completely optional. So if you feel creative be creative!
