reccomend me mods

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 6:26 am

Hey I only just recently got my copy of new vegas. and having had morrowind , oblivion and fallout 3 I usually use about 5-10 mods.
Which mods would you all reccomend?
I used some kind of overhaul mod for oblivion so that the enemies dont level up with you forever. but also makes it challenging by keeping some fixed at high levels regardless of your level. I also got a lot of cosmetic plugins. like enhanced textures. and just purely asthetic plugins like a quiver which shows diminishing arrows on oblivion. Also lets not forget the fallout 3 mod to fix it so you could actually reach max skills in all attributes (i assume you cannot reach max skills in new vegas)

bearing all this in mind. what mods would be reccomended for someone like me ? consider the fact i will be collecting all skill books anyway. so i would be happy with being able to level up far enough that skill books can reach the rest of the way :D

Look at the nexxus top 100 list. The mod library of fnv is considerably smaller though.

Off the top of my head:

Project Nevada, Nevada Skies, NMC texture pack or Ojo/Poco Bueno texture packs (or both), Vurt's Wasteland Flora Overhaul, New Vegas Restoration, Freeside Restoration, Immersive HUD, Adjustable HUD, Unified HUD, Imaginator, Lumenarium, Custom Lighting Overlay (if the URWLified version of Nevada Skies is too saturated), Electro-City, Cinematech, Interior Lighting Overhaul, FOOK, Weapon Mods Expanded (or Weapon Mod Expansion, two similar mods), New Vegas Interiors, Enhanced Shaders, Essential Visual Enhancement, Weapon Animation Replacers, New Vegas Reanimated, Improved Sound FX, Enhanced Blood, Operation Fixed Terrain, NV Error Corrections, Better Game Performance, Darn's UI or MTUI (or both), New Vegas Script Extender, 4GB Enabler, Mod Configuration Menu (used by many mods for ingame configuration), Fallout Mod Manager (aka FOMM, used for easy installation of mods) and a few smaller tweaks like Quicker Pip-Boy Light, Immersive Karma (silences those annoying karma sfx), More Perks and Traits, and Better Tag Skills (to be more in line with classic Fallout tagging.) And my own mod Mojave Nights, of course. :P

That's what I've been playing with (plus a few others to fit my tastes, mainly realistic weapon damage and armor stats.) A heck of a lot to put in, but it's not as bad as it may seem and the results are well worth it.

You can find all these mods and more at the http://www.newvegasnexus.com site - the Nexus is the de facto place to upload and download all mods for Bethesda's games.

no levelling mods?

Actually, level scaling in New Vegas isn't such an issue as it was in Oblivion, if it's even there at all - I think some enemies do level up (like Super Mutants becoming Masters) but there are places that have deathclaws from lvl 1 and others that will only ever have lvl 1 radscorpions, etc. I've not seen or heard mention of a mod like Fran's or OOO for New Vegas (maybe Project Nevada, not sure) but having just finished a lengthy playthrough from start to finish I can say that for me it was no problem at all. :)

With the release of Fallout 3,Bethesda Game Studios "fixed" the terrible Oblivion style levelling ;) Obsidian learned the lesson and so There is no need to worry about the enemy level scaling,it applies just to some monsters like Super Mutants

That's cool then. I always choose a thief kind of character because I like to explore every secret, less points go on combat, so if they did scale with me things like dogs would probably pwn me : P thanks guys.

FOR mods

Reccomended ones: (only major, there are a LOT of smaller ones that are good)

FOOK
EVE
Project Nevada
NMC textures
Nevada Skies
Electro City
Underground Hideout

Also, you'll need NVSE which you can download from http://nvse.silverlock.org/

Those are just the additional patches if you use any of those mods: EVE, WMX, WME, or the official DLC. The main Project Nevada file you need is http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40040

Improved textures generally just demand more RAM and (ideally) a faster hard drive. Other parts of the computer don't matter in a meaningful way for larger textures.

People need to STOP USING Error Corrections in conjunction with other mods. It is designed for vanilla and will DECREASE STABILITY not to mention just having a pretty bizarre premise.

Also if you've never played FNV, a vanilla run is definitely worth it. This isn't Fallout 3 where mods are required to have a decent time.

One last thing--don't blind install mods without reading the documentation provided... FOOK, for instance, explains what the loose files are and whether or not you should install them if you read the installation instruction.
