Sniping with This Machine or a plain 'ol Battle Rifle is just plain fun. It takes some real ballsl to fight like the 101st.

Hunting Rifle+++, no doubt. In fact, I'd rather say Paciencia from GRA.

There is one rather large disadvantage with the Paciencia, the same problem with the unscoped Hunting Rifle. The iron sights are slightly off which makes long range shots a bit of a crap shoot.
It's still an amazing rifle and I have to agree that the fully modded Hunting Rifle is the best sniper rifle in the game.

long range with iron sight?
i do believe that we have a confusion in our midst.
i'm shooting for cazadores an max range of AMR scope and their monitor size is 1/4 - max 1".
cazadores are the worst enemies in my oppinion because of their rather chaotic movement.
snipe that with iron sight, and u find yourself in the middle of an angry nest

I don't get why people pick anti-materiel rifle over Christine COS silencer rifle.

Sure, Anti-materiel has like 110 bullet damage and 110 crit damage.

Christine COS Rifle has 62 damage and 62 crit damage

But this is why the COS Rifle beats the Anti-materiel one.

COS Rifle has x2.5 crit chance compared to anti-materiel x1, which means a critical shot is much more likely to happen.

And now you guys will argue, "Yeah, but the COS Rifles damage+crit damage is like the anti-materiel rifles dmg with one bullet"

Which is almost true I guess, close enough anyhow, but the COS Rifles ammunition is also muuuuch more common.

And it's reload etc is much faster than that of the anti-materiel rifle. In damage per second the COS Rifle do better.

because most the Anti-Materiel Rifle is literally acting like a sniper rifle, not an all-around rifle that you can continue laying out shots. The Anti-Materiel Rifle was made to be like this:
-see group of enemies
-be Hidden and lay out at least 2 headshots
-enemy loses 2 guys or one and pushes out with a weaken dude
-you switch to a rifle or automatic weapon and lay down more suppressive fire, making them come down the road by where you lay down mines.
-???
-PROFIT!

honestly unless your dealing with heavy armor (in which case the ycs 186 or the anti material rifle is the way to go) i believe the humble little varmint rifle when fully modified out shoots them all a night scope a silencer and 8 shots of 5.56. that and its light so with proper gun skill and strength its dead still until you use the bolt to chamber the next shot. and if you dont have jury rigging for whatever reason replacement parts are easy to come by just scope and drop some fiends and you get all the rifles you need. also its ammunition is plentiful because if your not just about swimming in 5.56 rounds your doing something wrong. also its upgrades are relatively inexpensive.

Only in the sense that the riot shotgun is a melee weapon. I mean, shotguns are used at extreme short range, as are melee weapons, so quod erat demonstratum, right? :hubbahubba:

not the hunting shotgun with the choke modification it becomes the only known example of a shotgun in a video game any other "shotgun" is just an inaccurate pellet slinging piece of dung

Ratslayer, the only one I like using and suits me best.

I agree! Ratslayer has nice stats and it's pretty cool looking as well, that's why it is my favorite :P Though, it wasn't on the poll so I chose fully modded Hunting Rifle. I don't really have a real reason why I prefer it, I guess it's just cos it was the first gun I fully modded, so I kind of have a love for it, plus it is pretty beast :P

i know this is a F:NV general discussion and the add-ons have their separata topics, but i treat the game as a whole, with new missions.
i've finished the HH add-on, and i'm in BigMT. lvl 43
all lobotomites are +250hp and 7-9 DT
cyborg dogs - 550hp
nighstalkers - +500hp
(ia have the perk that enables me to see that info - really missed awareness in F3)
with gobi i have suficiently less 1 shot-kills (real time) than amr
btw. the HH i've mentioned earlier gave me the unique "critical" armor of joshua and salt over wounds's headgear

i've built this firsh character trying to snipe out whole deathclaw groups. in quarry junction (lvl 30+) ony alpha male and mother escaped 1 headshot kill, besides a few that i've missed. in all the junction only 3-4 were made aware by my misplaced shots with amr

so, as i've explained earlier, amr is best suited for high powered enemies. would've loved the enclave patrolls from F3, to snipe'em tesla/fire troopers
the varmint is outdated. at this level, woudn't do jack s**t against +300 enemies in groups. in fact in doesn't, because i've tried it. event the modded sniper rifle. yeah. extra silent, but gobi has extra criticals.
this is my first try of this game, without getting infos about walktrough. got the gobi by searching the wastes. in fact searching to wipe out cotton cove with AMR (another reason i've built this character, to deal out with legion assasins. which i'm not getting.)
i'm wiping out whole cities of ncr / legion and no squads on my tail :(

I use my Marksman Carbine to snipe most of the time. Though i really love the fully modded varmint rifle at low levels its BEAST If its deathclaw mothers or giant roboscorpions or [censored] legendary bloatflys ill use an AMR loaded with Explosive rounds :P

at low levels i used varmint rifle so i've stockpilled on .308, and purchased .50. this way at +30lvl i've had enough to ransack HH add-on +600 .308 bullets. by now, during OWB i'm running on +100 (.308) and +100 (.50)
gobi can't handle headshots on nightstalkers

ive found that out since ive been using it, but ive learned where its off and just simply adjust accordingly, not too hard to do and get used to.
