The Caesar has marked you for death, and the Legion obeys

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 9:49 am

This is my first play-through and I have run into a near impossible obstacle - the 4 Legionary Assassin's when existing Nipton.

Let me just express how incredible stupid that type of scripted attack is (out in the middle of nowhere with line of sight in all direction and BOOM, 4 guys out of nowhere), but to also have the level of difficulty suddenly jump 117 degrees is just meh.... And I have just been playing FO3 with the Wanders mod, and New Vegas on hardcoe, Very Hard, Melee, is surprisingly easy in comparison. Easy, except when the game suddenly throws an impossible challenge...

So, do I reload an earlier version and NOT kill the guys in Nipton? That is just horrible game play, but perhaps that is the only choice...?

(And don't suggest fighting them: I can't not melee even 1 of them, I can not dynamite them, I can not lure them to the NCR outpost.)

Your actions have consquences....
And for not serving the noble cause of the Legion, its your own fault :)

It's a tough fight. They usually spawn with Cowboy Repeaters which will punch through any armour you will have by then with ease.

Had one guy spawn with a Thermic Lance once. That was fun at level 4.

No can do. They are now "attached to me" and will soon spawn where ever I go.

Which I expected, but within a reasonable game play.

Not tough; impossible or near enough to make it game breaking.

Jean Sky Diving -> NCRCF -> Hidden Valley -> mountain pass -> HELIOS 1 -> Gibson -> Novac

That's the way I use.
I can get Boone before I set foot in Nipton, making killing Vulpes a cakewalk.

You can beat them.

Or, you should be able to. I've grown accustomed to that tough fight, because I too also piss off the Legion in that area on my NCR playthroughs. And yes, I play very hard.

If you truly can't manage it then reload an earlier save, but it should be doable.

Plenty of people have came across them early on in the game, it is reasonable, their meant to kill you not give easy XP.
Change you tactic, flank them or something

Use explosives if you can (three of them tend to group up) and your main priority should always be finding cover.

If u have a stealthboy then use it or
pick CLs armor and wear it(i aint sure if it works against hit squads).
But to be frank u should ve just done what u were told to do and later support the legions cause(no they dont kill every town they pass through and no they dont have bad intentions they just have awfull means).

Assassin - "Caeser wants you dead!"

My character, female called Reina - "Oh, I see. Here, hold this grenade for me, I pulled the pin so you're safe"

I always use explosives against any of the Legion assassin's, they had it coming.

Best way to handle scum assassin teams is to carry a scoped rifle and keep checking your back. They have to run up on you to deliver their ultimatum, so if you can catch them on approach, you can get in free headshots.

Also: Get Veronica as a companion, give her Pushy or some other high-damage Unarmed aid and some T51b. She then becomes your slaving barbarian repellent.

"The Caesar has marked you for-" *WALLPAPERED*
"The Veronica doesn't give a ****!"

You can craft Satchel Charges with 25 points in explosives, some pistol powder, some lead, scrap electronics and a sensor module. I left Goodsprings with 3 charges, by the time I left Primm I had 7.

They're unbelievably powerful considering they only require 25 points in explosives to make (decent Perception + Skilled trait?.) Killed/cripples/scared off Vulpes entire unit with just two of them, four tactically places with a couple of Frag Mines made short work of the assassins.

So yeah, IEDs. Fun on a bun.

Thank you all for the many suggestions, this is what I did:

1) New character (gun / sniper).
2) Went to Nipton and killed all of them.
3) Vilified by the Legion.
4) Prepped with dynamite, metal armor, grenade pistol and took the road like before.
5) ....they didn't show up
6) Made it to Novac.

At one point I did run into a fire fight between legionnaires and some soldiers/carava, but all the legionnaires where called Recruit and not Assassin. Heck I even met a bunch of legionnaires that didn't attack me on sight.

If you want to be absolutely sure you don't hav issues with the Legion, ask around Novac for a guy called Boone. If you play your cards right with Boone, the Legion will hardly be able to deal with you.

I read on some other board that it might be the legion EAR that triggers the assassins, and this time I did not take the ear. (Found on a body in a house in Nipton).

the legion didn't attack me, instead talked to me. and opened up their quest line.
now, i'm a soft hearted devil with ncr and legion playing just enough on each side as to reach the end with "yes man". really hate the fact that yes man brings an ending of it's own, not just as a side-quest

even thow i'm cutting trough ncr an legion town, i'm not being chased by elite assasins. and i really want that, to resuplly with their their ammo/weapons/armor

I had this problem alot when I was low level. Untill you're higher level and tougher, I reccoment travelling with companions, if nothing else they'll make good meat shields giving you the opportunity to run away.
Adding to that, running away is a good choice.

oh my, its so much fun to have the centurions and assassins after you in a death squad of 4 (3 assassins, 1 centurion) and play at "very hard" under level 10.
the best way i deal with them is making a plan, learn their spawn locations, knowing where they are before they get me (high perception), either run away fast (travel light perk) or far enough to fast travel to get away from them or climb up on anything that is very steep and very high and shadow myself with whatever object is present while crouched (high sneak skill), hunting rifle with all the mods is a benefit in this situation.
maybe spoiler ?:
Spoiler
the area near broc flower cave is especially entertaining, the carnage of bodies to loot from, the ncr, legion and night stalkers all fighting with each other while i snipe the legions on the top of broc flower cave crouched between the rocks (they cant get to you).
