Acrobatics?

Post » Tue Sep 15, 2009 4:02 am

In Oblivion, 75 points of Acrobatics allowed you to jump decently high. In Morrowind, that same level let you jump much less high.

Basically, should you be able to jump higher and kind of "float" like in Oblivion, or jump lower like in Morrowind?

Better yet, realistic jumping, with 'gravity and all that'.

You know, its pretty hard to jump 2 meters, or even half a meter, upwards with no previous impulse at all.

Animations to make it more lively/believable. To jump that high with little to no impulse, you would need to have pretty goods acrobatics, and would perform an air flip.

And make it so that its useful for something more than just bumping around. Like having offensive/defensive applications in combat. Flip over the enemy to gain his back by surprise, give him a well aimed flying kick to gain the upper hand in melee... yeah, basically lots of stuff that wouldn't really work in real life, due to the extreme coordination and stamina needed for it to be practical, but acrobatics needs some practical use in the game!

I'm all for more realistic Acrobatics limited by physics and with more usability in stealth and combat action.

the morrowind physics for sure.

After a while in oblivion you could jump onto houses... I dont like this at all and never pick ath/acro as majors.

be able to go prone.

have a grappling hook.

I love acrobatics, love it to death, but I see the need for balance. I was always saddened by the lack of jumping ability in Fallout. I think that a Levitation or Jump spell would be a great comprimise. And bring back Slow Fall too, if it can be done.

what the point of going prone in a melee game? You can't shoot a bow. Maybe spells.

I want the jumping to be like NV and Fallout 3.

Floating in Oblivion was a bit over the top. I hated how bodies in cages in the Oblivion gates would float down like feathers! Hopefully with the new engine, they will implement a more realistic physics engine.

I liked having acrobatics cause a huge jump, it made me feel like I was a jedi when I was using Hopesfire, but I do think it needs a huge upgrade in the animation department because right now it just looks like you float up and down, you don't even react when you hit the ground either you just keep running it looks funny.

Doubt that the "combat" part could practically implemented, given what fighting was in Oblivion, but I second the general suggestions of this post. More realism in jump in general should be had.
