Adding a voice file to a topic

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:52 pm

Well apparntly in later New Vegas version part of the Cass ending regarding the Crimson Caravan and Van graffs has been removed from the game for whatever reason. Well i'm attempting to add back the topic with Cass's voice file to the part of her ending it corresponds to. Well when I try to add a new response topic however it just has the voice filename set as New Response with no way to edit the path or file of the voice. I've been searching all over the internet and have found help files detailing how to add custome topics and the like but nothing like what i'm trying to do. I really don't understand why Obsidian would remove these parts of the ending anyway when they were a part of the game and actually used in the released version and earlier versions before some of the later updates...once the game hit like 1.3 or 1.4 something like that then it was removed. I used a bsa unpacker to get the ogg and lip files of this ending from the sound.bsa and extracted them to the sound/voice folder of the game directory but still can't figure a way to get them to show in the geck for use. Can anyone possibly help me out here, I would be greatly appreciative?

It all depends it the response is still in the topics list or not. I know no way to force the geck to use an existing file. He commands, we obey.

As long as you only edit the prompt, the result script, topic, choices or the variables to get the answer you don't need to rename the file, but as soon as you need to open the "edit response" and make any change you have to duplicate the file and rename it.

I don't see what line you mean so you'll have to check yourself. In the VEnding quest, under VEndingCass I found a comment about alice and gloria's death. If it is the one you want, good news, otherwise you have to add it back as a new dialogue in the old fashioned way.

Hmmm well it's about Gloria and the van graffs death but after the game...the one that happens if you steal the plans from the gun runners and they're still alive at the end...what's strange is the line used to be in the geck and then when the new updates for geck and NV came the line was gotten rid of though the dialogue's ogg and lip files are stil in the Sounds1 file of the NV.esm Specifically the geck on uses VEnding_VEndingCass_0015E386_1 and VEnding_VEndingCass_0015E386_2 but they used to use 3, 4 and 5 as well which talk about their murder...there is also similar one that I think was in the game that talks about what happens to the two trading company if you let Cass take her revenge that have also been taken out of the game since the more recent updates...if the case is i'd have to add them the old fashioned way then i'm afraid i'm completely stumped since I can't seem to find any help files directly talking about what i'm trying to add. Most talk about adding a quest topic but the topic itself is already created under vendingscass...I just want to add three extra responses under the original responses...basically back where they were before they took them out for some reason. Obsidian if ur listening please either put them back in or make a patch for me that adds them back in, I miss them :P

Oh, yes. You are right. How strange, the narration about the murder of Mc Lafferty and the Van graff by supposed gun runners is no longer in game but still in the .bsa... Well found !
Anyway, if the responses are no longer in the topic, you have to recreate them just as if they were new topics. You have to create a new FemaleUniqueCass voice directory, duplicate the files 3, 4 and 5 extracted from the .bsa inside, type the text and rename the files .......... :banghead: ... This is what they call logic.
But the problem (yes, it is a problem) is it will be translated in english for all versions of the game.....:brokencomputer: ....

Ah thanks so much I created a new folder in the data folder using the same directory path that the original soundfiles used and then just renamed them a bit and it automatically used that particular file that I wanted it to use for each number line response that I wanted once I wrote in the text. Now it's just as it was before and 'should' have remained...you've been a life saver, thanks Octarina :D Sad thing was once I read what you wrote I did almost exactly what I was doing before I could get it to work(just needed to add a few more folders to the directory path :P) :celebration:  :foodndrink:

I wanted to make a correction to this. Apparantly it's not even necessary to create a folder or a new file...or even extract the voice and lip files from the bsa at all...not in this case anyway. I was looking at the other ending, where you let Cass take her revenge and there is an ending they did for that which i'm not sure ever made it to the game or not since I never went that route(however it's not in the game now to be clear). Well I decided I was going to add it back but hadn't extracted the files from the bsa yet, I just went ahead and created new responses under the topic with random text in them until I could get the ogg files and listen to them. As soon as I created the new reponses regardless of what my text said and then reopened it again to edit it the geck had already added the voice file to that response 3, 4, and 5 just in that order. It may have had something to do with the files already supposed to be used for that topic but then taken out, i'm not sure but regardless because the files were already in the bsa file it was even easier than I thought it to be and better that no extraction or new folders were even necessary. Thanks again for all your help regardless Octarina :)
