Do you have a 'Side-step it' DLC?

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 8:21 am

So, I've read various people's threads and comments, but is there a DLC you are just sick of for whatever reason you just don't acknowledge it in some playthroughs?

For me it's OWB, it's an over dragged out fetchquest, the enemies are cannonfodder foes borderlining bulletsponges, and the loot's just subpar. Writing and location wise, it has good details, but the DLC over all just feels like one giant 'LOLKILLFEST!'.

Care to share your 'Avoided' DLC?

Edit: Poll included.

I never avoid any of them, although if for some reason I was forced (in-game) to choose one to skip it would probably be Honest Hearts. I don't dislike it, per se, however you don't really have any options in how you proceed. Technically you get to decide how the DLC ends, however depending on your viewpoint one of the two options isn't actually an option at all, so what's supposed to be a difficult decision is instead a no-brainer. I'm also not a fan of the carry limit, but that's not a flaw so much as a side-effect of my fondness for heavy weapons and their attendant heavy ammo, so I don't consider that a negative aspect of the DLC.

All of the DLC are worth playing for me and I seem to be in the minority on this forum when I say that I really enjoyed Dead Money and Honest Hearts. Old World Blues is actually my favourite, I laughed my ass off when I first met the scientists, but Lonesome Road has my favourite story. I don't try to avoid any of them, I just wait until I feel I can do them without too much difficulty.

Dead Money. Just so much of the quests feel built around stealth pcs and the stop & start gameplay is so annoying at times.

For me it's Old World Blues, pretty much for the reasons Colonel Martyr mentioned. I hate bullet sponge enemies, and that seemed to be one of main focuses of OWB. I found it difficult to explore because every time I turned a corner there would be a pack of nightstalkers, or a bunch of roboscorpions, or some cyberdogs that all had the uncanny ability to be shot in the head with brush gun and only lose a fraction of their health. :shakehead:

The next DLC that I sidestep would be Dead Money, not because I didn't like something about it, but because I mainly play through it to hear the dialogue, and after a few playthroughs of it that "I've heard this before feeling" comes up. I still replay it in most playthroughs, but I avoid it occasionally.

I always complete them all, however if there was one I'd consider avoiding it would be Old World Blues. When I did my recent all DLC replay OWB is the only add on that I really didn't look forward to experiencing again, it was just too inane. I particularly hated that one area you had to replay five times, each time with more bullet sponge enemies.

I don't avoid any of them, but i don't look forward to Honest Hearts. Other than the survivalist's story there's just nothing in it that appeals to me.

I skip Dead Money constantly. I absolutely loathe that pretty-scenery railroad trip.

In my current playthrough though, I'm going to choke it down one more time, as Daveney is my completionist Courier.

I love them all, but I guess if I had to avoid one it would Honest Hearts. It's way too laggy on my PS3.

Dead Money. It was fun for the first two times but when I remember where everything is and how to do everything, it's just a tedious cakewalk with the occasional death.

Also, Honest Hearts. I usually complete it with just spamming player.movetoqt console command, which teleports me to wherever the current quest needs me. Not a fan of the landscape, it's pretty pointless to just walk around Zion when there's nothing to see. Other than the traveling (and the last battle) I do everything properly of course.

Well, I'm slogging through Dead Money again. Yay. Hear that sound? Railroad is busy tonight. Apparently, a low-level NPC Ranger knows the "trick" to taking off bomb collars, but a player character with maxed Explosives and Repair skills, and Agility, Perception and Intelligence of nine can't.

OWB. I just can't get passed the ludicrous brain thing. I just can't.

I avoid the DLC that either have little to nothing to support my character's playstyle or, uh, character. For example, my first guy did not do Old World Blues because after getting shanghaied into Dead Money, he was not going to check any more mysterious radio signals in the future. Likewise, my second character did not do Dead Money or Honest Hearts because, as a melee fighter, neither of those have any decent weapons for her.

Although in general, I think the closest to my "side-step DLC" would be Old World Blues. That one's reserved for my "funny" characters, who usually have Wild Wasteland. Serious ones need not apply.

OWB. I just can't get passed the ludicrous brain thing. I just can't.

My personal canon is that your brain wasn't actually talking to you. That was the personality subroutine of the device housing it, which made the mistake that it was your brain. :P

It's definitely possible to have the brain exist as a separate entity and think for itself, but the arbitrary channel between you and it is indeed utter nonsense. It's a sloppy plot device but IMO they pulled it off rather well in the end.

That's what I need to do. I bailed from Zion as I couldn't complete the last quest, it'd CTD when I got near a particular spot, and I couldn't think of the command to bypass it/skip ahead. As I left a follower in the wasteland I just teleported to him.
*Writes down command for later* :)

I voted Honest Hearts, but now I'm leaning more towards Dead Money. I've just started it for the 4th time and really can't be bothered with it. It's very laggy around the streets, though was pretty smooth in previous play throughs, so I don't know what's causing that all of a sudden.
Not really looking forward to OWB either, but it's slightly preferable to Dead Money. I might load up my save prior to entering the bunker and skip it entirely :P :shakehead:
