Skyrim's adherence to past lore is... impressive.

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 12:43 pm

A post over on TIL got me thinking, and maybe this is justifiable. I don't like it still, but maybe there's an explanation: The Nords HAVE been imperialized. They've been a part of the Empire for a long time. It's been two hundred years just since the *third* empire, and Imperial influence on the Nords started with Alessia. That is plenty of time for the culture to change. The tradition that the traditionalist Nords of today are adhering to is an old one that the Empire itself no longer holds; the tradition we wanted from them is ancient history by now.

I don't know which makes me more angry, that, or the general neglect I've been ranting about.

Also, I'm ready to call the deal with Alduin to be nothing more than a Mannimarco moment. Could be a TV trope if it catches steam..."Mannimarco Moment."

lol, Mannimarco was my FIRST thought upon seeing Alduin in Helgen. My second was "maybe he'll get bigger after a few meals" :spotted owl:

There's a shout called "Kyne's Peace", which makes all wild animals passive to you (they won't run or attack). The first word of it is "Kyne".

And there are numerous locations with the name "Shor" in it, yet no one talks about him, worships him, or even really gives a rat's ass about Shor.

At this point, I just get the feeling Shor is dead, and not in the "well he's a dead god" sense, but as in no longer exists dead. http://youtu.be/FbXh7ZipUuQ?hd=1, but the complete and utter neglect and utter void of Shor worship sticks out more than a puss filled, oozing thumb.

Question, do the Forsworn worship the old gods? I haven't looked into this but that might be why the old gods aren't worshiped? I have no clue really.

Couldn't find out what either, even when I've been blasting their fortresses apart. I assume it's not the nordic pantheon, as these are Reachmen, bretons if you will, not nords.

Ah ok. I haven't delved into their forts either other than during a MQ when I had to go near one.

I even broke out the head of the Foresworn, and learned absolutely nothing at all. Not that I wanted to break him out, but I did not want to rot in jail forever.

Lies!

Ew! I think everyone fears that, 2crow. But in less than 600 years? The power of the Atmoran gods was in withstanding the forgetful snows (Merish influence, basically). The stark gods of Man are needed (specifically Ysmir) for the imminent doom-war of this Kalpa. The Imperial gods have fallen. That was Alduin's significance: the crown has seemingly passed from Akatosh and the south. But then why have these traditionalists abandoned their gods? Every Nord in the game has a battle cry that mentions one of those gods. The knowledge is there, it isn't lost. I'm lost.

By the way, in the male, Altmeri voice, "Aldmeri" actually sounds like "Old Mary."

They say Shor about 10x more than Akatosh or the rest of the Eight combined. They same Ysmir often too.

In fact, only Talos is mentioned more.

I'd love to see an obscure text made related to the foresworn. They don't seem to have much background >.>

I'd like to know where, as I keep running into Niners and Talos everywhere. If it's MQ stuff, then I see exactly why Shor has been extremely absent.

I like how the Psijic Order made it's way into the game.

That reminds me, it's been over a month, since my teacher asked me to meet him under Saarthal... in 2 hours. Crap.

It's my favorite Questline.

Was not expecting that orb to be the Eye of Magnus. I also love the staff of Magnus too

He is mentioned by the horse thief at the beginning, as well as in normal dialogue. And at least once in the Companions questline.

Shor is mentioned all the time in dialogue, as is Sovngarde.
