What mods do I need for the best graphics?

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:49 pm

Just got a new PC with a i7 and GTX580, so I want to play Oblivion with everything maxed out like a mother. I've been waiting since 2005 to do this....

Qarl's (?) Texture pack is one I read about a while back. It quadruples texture quality on a lot of the environmental stuff, right?

What else can I do? I'm really interested in something for the faces, because they don't look as good as they did six years ago.

I'm not interested in changing game mechanics (exception: I'd like to be able to sell stuff without being asked "How many?" when there are more than two).

All I want is to make the game look as good as possible. God rays? Can I do that? Make the grass or trees look better?

Please advise. I'd like to start playing on the new machine this weekend.

!!!!!!!!THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

From the thread three topics down: (Oblivion MODS should I try?) Read the thread to get the links - several are very large..... Good luck. Also, look for the Unique Landscapes thread next post down.

Cheers

I suggest you to install Vibrant Textures (vanilla res,but it looks better) + Really Textured Normal Maps+Bomret Detailed Normals 1.1+QTP3 FULL(High res texture replacer, may hit your performance significantly) or QTP3 Redimized(Reduced and optimized qtp3,runs better)+ Lush and Gaudy Floriana Requiem (Hi res flowers, grass, trees)

Install order:
Vibrant
Really textured normal maps
Bomret detailed normals
QTP3 FULL/REDIMIZED (if you use qtp3 full, you'll need to install the 1.3 patch)
L&G floriana requiem

Also, for Shivering Isles, try Bomret SI Texture Pack(Hi res shivering isles)

QTP3 is a good choice for mid-level PC.
For high-end PC, I would recommend darooz's texture pack which quadruples QTP3 (Unfortunately, darooz's texture pack is not completed for now)

Here's the comparison.

There are many other separate texture mods for sky, flower, fruit, book, wine, etc...
You can find some threads about graphic enhancement in the forum.
If you are looking for character texture enhancement, please take a look at http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39823.

So is QTP3 the best completed retexture pack?

As far as I know, yes.
However, QTP3 only contains textures for architectures, landscapes and dungeons.
If you want a complete graphic upgrade, you need to search other texture mods which enhance trees, flowers, sky, wines, shop sign, road sign, and all other stuff.

By the way, QTP3 doesn't enhance CloudRulerTemple, Arena, and Kvatch.
Here is the enhancement mod for them.

You had better also grab enhancement mod for Oblivion realm as well.

Best water mod is OBGE water
It requires OBGE, and OBGE will disable AA for Nvidia card. Nvidia inspector can force AA, but it will cause some graphic problem. AA shader of OBGE is not ideal though.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37825

Alternative choice is realistic water
It is not as good as OBGE water, but you can have perfect AA through Nvidia panel.

OBGE water = best water + acceptable AA
realistic water = fairly good water + best AA
It's up to your choice.

I really, really appreciate the replies, guys!!! I have waited so long to play this game on a decent rig. I just finished installing Windows 7. Tomorrow I'll tackle all the drivers and updates. Hopefully, I'll be able to install Oblivion and some mods this weekend.

Hey, how do I get the list under my Account name for this web site to disappear? It's blocking my view of some of the text.

Oh, wait--it's the Zenimax script off this page. I have to allow it.

QTP3 (Don't use redimized version if your PC is powerful enough. Redimized version will slightly lower the graphic quality, though it is not very obvious. Pyffied version is OK.)

Just because you have a great new computer do not expect to be able to load EVERYTHING, even with 2GB VRAM if you have it. The textures do add up and before you know it you are over you VRAM limit. Make sure you use 4GB patch and OSR.

If you start getting CTDs with all the textures loaded, monitor the oblivion.exe RAM usage to see if you are hitting the limit.

VRO2 is a super great body mod but it has quite a hit on the VRAM as to the really high texture packs. I threw everything at my new computer and ran about 1.8GB VRAM most of the time, and even hit 2.1GB.

Thank you, I am flattered.
I installed VRO2 (which has been renamed as VRD) and QTP3, and my VRAM usage hasn't hit 1GB yet.
It seems that you threw too many things at your computer. :D
