60 Hours In...

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 1:00 pm

And I still haven't touched the MQ, none of the Guilds, and have only entered 1 city, which is Markarth. I have a house there. I've been to Riverwood a lot to sell loot, but still haven't talked with Alvor yet. I've found 10 Shouts from exploring, but can't unlock them yet since I haven't fought any Dragons.

Game is MASSIVE. Dragons are the big feature and I've put in 60 hours without even fighting one yet. Truly an amazing game.

It truly is, but I don't understand why you're avoiding cities? They're truly quite amazing and filled with side quests, which will take you all over the massive landscape if you don't fast travel.

That is because they don't appear until you get to a certain point in the main quest.... Also I'm 80 hours in and have done almost all the guild questlines and the MQ. I'm now gearing up to do about 50 hours of dungeon diving and exploring like you :) The game truly is huge.

Im also 60 hours in, and I'v already discovered a 100 location and did 1 quest line completely. I love walking to my destination only to discover a cave and complete that first. And then another cave...or a ruin it's awesome.

You really should do the very first part of the MQ up until your first dragon fight, in my opinion, so that dragons start appearing in the wild. I was worried they'd disrupt my questing by attacking towns 24/7 but it doesn't seem to happen much and most important NPCs are immune to death anyway. They add a huge amount of ambience. I remember one spotting me near Riften and chasing me into the forest; we played cat and mouse for about 10 minutes before I lost it and managed to sneak up on it. Plus hearing that echoing roar in the distance and frantically searching around for the source is awesome.

I've discovered 260+ locations. I'm just dungeon diving and doing side quests/miscellaneous quests. I love the dungeons. Really unique and varied. I haven't entered any of the other cities because I want to wait until I finish up all my side quests I've come across. After that i'll talk with Alvor and head to Whiterun.

Normally I'd say "bro, ur doin it rong", but this is a Bethesda game. If you're having the time of your life in a single city (albeit corrupt) then power to you.

As stated above though, I really suggest you get the dragons going. The random dragon encounters are simply amazing. Watching a giant beat the pulp out of one (at level 1 since giants don't scale) was entertaining. I have seen them get beat up by towns, giants, bandits; then I have seen them pulverize other towns, bandits, and wildlife.

There's an amazing amount of immersion, as well; i've only completed about 4 of the MQ quests, but explored a crapload of locations, and i've not even explored a FOURTH of skyrim. The other day i had a really cool experience though; there was a messenger walking down the road, so i tried to get him to give me his message, but he wouldn't...so i killed him. And wouldn't you know, he had a message, asking for reinforcements to storm a fort that had 'great treasures' inside it, and wouldn't you know that was just a quick 5 minute walk away? It was just super cool to see all that happen, it just makes the world feel so alive ^.^
