Auroran Dance

The stars appeared like sparkling little snow flakes in the night sky. With the aurora borealis floating overhead, Raelynn walked silently on the road. With a katana on her side, she strolled through the night watching the stars as she went. They kept her comforted and warmed her insides as she thought of the great beyond.

"What's your name again?" The girl she was traveling with asked, ruining her romance with the night sky. She smiled however, for the stars weren't going anywhere.

"My name is Raelynn," she replied to the young female dunmer. Raelynn thought young dunmer were promiscuious, and it seemed this girl was of no exception. Lot's of cheap make up, braided hair and, of course, a facial tattoo.

"That's a strange looking sword your wearing, why is it so thin?" The dunmer asked another question. The dark elf was starting to annoy Raelynn slightly, but she knew all young ones were like this.

"I found it by a lake and... thought it would be of some worth to a merchant. Other than that... I know nothing of it." Raelynn lied without trying. She knew full well it was once her mother's, who had passed the blade onto her.

"Do you know how to use it?" The woman asked.

Raelynn shook her head, lying again. She wasn't about to compromise her mission or who she was.

Raelynn heard footsteps behind her and on both sides of the road, in the forest. They were being followed.

"What about you? Are you armed?" Raelynn asked the dark elf.

"I have a dagger... in my backpack," she replied.

"What use is a dagger, when it is so hard to get to?"

"What do you me-"

Suddenly, two bandits appeared from the blackness in front of them. They were wearing fur armor and both men were older imperials.

"What are such lovely young things like yourselves doing out 'er all alone?" A voice said from behind the duo.

Alfa, the dark elf, was shocked and full of fear. Her pupils dialated and her heart beat increased, putting her into shock. She was truly afraid, this being her first time outside of the comfort of imperial walls, the reality of the situation shot home with the fact that she was in danger. What were these men going to do to her? steal her money? kill her? force themselves on her?

"Now why don't we have ourselves some fun boys?" The head bandit said.

"Please don't hurt us!" Alfa cried out immobilized by fear.

Raelynn stared at them silently and put her hand on her katana.

The three men slowly encircled Raelynn. Without warning she sprung into action, pulling out three throwing stars from her dress cuff. She gracefully threw the stars at one of the approaching bandits hitting him in the neck and penetrating his flesh.

The hit bandit clenched his neck as blood oozed out of the three holes. He fell to the ground as the terror hit him. Blood poured into his mouth and neck. Every time he tried to bleed, blood choked him.

This threw the other bandits off-guard. They were shocked to see their comrade on the dirt, squirming and gasping for air. The bandits stood in place watching in shock as the man choked on his own blood.

The dying man tried to sound out cries for help as he tasted his own blood, but nothing came of it except a gurgling noise. Eventually the blackness over took him and he was know nothing more than a corpse on the side of the road.

"Get her!" yelled the bandit from behind.

The remaining bandit from the front shook off his demoralization, and raised his claymore above his head aiming to kill Raelynn.

Raelynn pushed Alfa to the side of the road as she drew her katana out of its sheath. When the man was no less than a yard away he swung his axe at her. She side stepped his swing and plunged her blade into his chest. She spun around to get the blade out, cutting open his other half.

She then turned her attention to the final bandit who was presumable the leader. He charged at her with a wood cutting axe with a battle cry.

As the leader swung down at Raelynn, she deflected the axe blow with such a motion that it flung out of his hands and landed on the side of the road. As she put the katana to his throat he put his hands up in fear.

The tip of the sword poked his adams apple as his face that was once full of confidence and lust turn to one of fear and cowardice.

"What would you have done to us?" Raelynn asked the shaking bandit.

"I just wanted gold, thats it! I swear!" He said.

Raelynn knew what he wanted from the very beginning. He wasn't just a bandit, he was scum. For one, women in cheap rags don't usually have that much money. And they certainly don't have enough money to get risked jailed or caught by an imperial patrol.

"Alfa," Raelynn glanced over at the dunmer sitting speechless on the side of the road, "You can always tell a man's true self at his moment of death."

She sliced his head off. He would never harm an innocent again.
