Kalpas mentioned.

I've advanced to the point in the main quest and I have met the dragon Paarthunax. He mentioned this world being the egg of the next Kalpa and talked about the Elder Scrolls, time, kalpas, and so on.

Seeing all of these obscure lore concepts brought to life is so exciting, I can't wait to find more of the lore in the main quest. Skyrim is truly the greatest and most fine-tuned expression of the game's lore yet.

Talking with Paarthunax is awesome. I really wish there were some more lore-savvy dialogue options, though.

Sedri Dreth (my Dunmer) is such a noob. :P

When I got the quest to kill Paarthunax, I just thought '[censored] the blades, I'm not doing it.' I hope it's not an essential quest.

I refused to kill him. Frankly, my PC is the Dragonborn, and if I ever decide to found a new Empire or something i'll build my own secret service. I'm certainly not going to kill Paarthunax for a crusty old man. =P

Wait, when does that happen? I've been massively abusing the new ability to tab out of conversations with certain NPCs, because frankly, I find it hilarious when my character just walks away while someone I don't like its talking to me. I feel like I'm really near the end of the MQ, (already *spoiler* rode a dragon *spoiler*) so it's a bit weird that I haven't gotten this yet.

If thats the case, you've already missed it. It occurs when you meet Paarthunax for the first time.

Agreed 100%. The Blades have been waiting for a Dragonborn for so long, and now that they finally have one that can feasibly reinstate the Blades (Or at least recreate the order to some extent) they go "Sorry, we're honor bound and if you don't kill this dragon, we ain't gonna do [censored]." I found it so odd that they are willing to deny the Dragonborn and their duty to protect/serve just so he may go deliver their brand of justice to a dragon who willingly helped you face Alduin. Sure, theres the possibility of treachery, but its not like Dragonborn is a kickass dragon slayer, right?

I know I'm coming really late to this conversation but...

My conversation with Paarthunax is probably my vavorite moment in any TES game. Maybe even better than the conversation with Vivec. It was just magical. I almost [censored] myself when he talked about kalpas and the Egg of Time. Its absolutely fascinating how both P and Aergnir (sp?) ask if its right to deny the next world. Amazing. I can't wait to see how the MQ ends (taking a break to find Word Walls etc).

The way I see it, I count Paarthurnax as a friend. The blades can [censored] off.

The founder of the Way was in Sovngarde. My character wouldn't mind returning to Sovngarde. Ergo, by acting like the founder of the Way of the Voice, my character is thus more likely to also get a shot at Sovngarde. If Paarthurnax is good enough for Kyne's followers, he's good enough for me.

That, and the fact that even the Emperors all defended Paarthurnax from the Blades spoke volumes to me. I'll still be taking certain companions to join the Blades (they do serve an important function, in a world where Alduin may or may not have been permanently destroyed), but as of right now, my character sees them as having violated one of their main oaths: to serve the Dragonborn. I'm not their errand boy; if anything, they should be mine, and if I decide, as Big Man Dragonslayer, that Paarthurnax doesn't die, they should damn well kneel and respect it.

While I agree with their principle in theory (that doing good doesn't always make up for great bad), the example of Paarthurnax is too important in a world full of dragons without an Alduin to direct them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the blades in this game(all two of them) are monumental hypocrites. They want me to murder death kill, IMO, the most epic character I've come to face with, but they don't bat an eyelid when I summon Odahviing in front of them.

Not to mention they complain about the Graybeards not using there great power for anything but at the same time are suspicious that they will use this great power for evil?

I'm not sure but Paarthurnax was more properly paranoid than the Blades and waited at the exact place he knew Alduin would emerge sometime in the future. Not to mention the Graybeards make a lot of exceptions just for the dragon born and even risk Paarthurnax's life by telling where to get the dragonrend ability itself.

The last two Blades are clueless hypocrites, who have one dialogue option to explain themselves in the most condescending tone possible.
