Red eyes seem to glitter at you

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 12:52 am

So I'm at work. At work my computer svcks. So I can't play Skyrim. So I figured I should do some work at work...

NAAAAAAAAAH

Instead I wanted to take a crack at Arena which I have never played. I have a few questions, more of which will probably get posted here as I go because Google is no help on this game.

What does it mean when it says "Red eyes seem to glitter at you from the dark" in a dungeon?

It is more flavour text than anything else, but it is also a warning that there may be rats near by.

I think it's just actually coded into certain places in the dungeons to add atmosphere. When rats are nearby it says something like "you hear the scurrying of little claws."

I see! I was getting curious about it as I had found a secret passage right near one of the spots where it said it (I had noticed it was attached to a floor panel) and then nothing when I found the same text the next time. Thanks guys!

Question the second!

So I have two quests to venture to the Conclave of Faith. Everyone in town keeps saying it's somewhere to the south west. Even when I get to the very south west of town people keep saying it's to the southwest. So I'm guessing it was outside of town. Once I get outside of town it seems like no one out there knows where anything is so I stop getting directions. After wandering in a vague SW direction for an hour and then sweeping back I have yet to find this conclave of faith. I did find three other chapels. My question is this.

Is there a way to find these locations by asking around or any other method?

If its a dungeon outside of town its on the fast travel map. If its in town, you'll just have to keep wandering around.

It doesn't seem to be in town as everyone along the south and west walls of the town keep saying it's to the southwest.

As far as I know it's not a dungeon, it's a temple. When I go to the fast travel map it doesn't appear.

There is possibly a map I don't know about though. I've found the map of the provinces and Tamriel in general and I've also found the local map which shows me the buildings and the red dots for doorways.

Arena and Daggerfall both have lots of descriptive text messages like that. In Daggerfall, there's always one or two upon arriving at a dungeon which may give you some indication as to what inhabitants lie within. These games are really chilling in their narrative and how they convey details like oldschool text based adventure games. I kind of wish they were in later Elder Scrolls games...

I like the text messages because they give you some warning when a silent enemy (read: every enemy) is sneaking up on you.
