Since i have never played Arena and Daggerfall, the choice is between Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.
Without mods, its a hard choice between Oblivion and Skyrim. The following is my opinion on both unmodded games.
Oblivion;
Pros are :
* Cyrodill's society seemed much more united and welcoming to all races. Cases in point are that the major guilds have branches in almost all cities.
* I always liked to spend days on the imperial city island, just because the city was so enormously large.
* The landscape was very peaceful
* You could go anywhere with designing your character. I even made a Dark elf with green hair and dark purple skin.
Cons:
* The levelling system
* The level scaling; the fact you could win all questlines at level 1
* the mercantile skill.
* The fact that everyone of the same race shares the same voice.
* The music system worked as a spider sense of sorts. When the suspenseful music started, you automatically looked around to see the enemy. This broke the immersion.
Skyrim;
Pros:
* The battle system is awesome. The fact you can operate your arms independently opens many possibilities. Shouting also ads more possibilities.
* The levelling/perk system is also a vast improvement over the last few games. With it, you shape your character how you want them to be during playing, instead of having to choose from the start.
* The level scaling seems to be less prevalent.
* Society is more complex than in oblivion. There are multiple factions at work and, in contrast to Oblivion, you cannot please anyone.
* Marriage is also a fun feature.
Cons:
* Most cities have some kind of big problem you cannot even solve. The only thing you can do, is watch helplessly. Maven Black-Briar in Riften comes to mind. The only thing you can do with her is...helping her to gain more power.
* Character design is limited compared to oblivion.
* Short guild quest-lines.
I think my vote will go to Skyrim in the unmodded competition.
With mods, its kind of an unfair competition since Oblivion gained many mods that fixed most of its bad points and even added much more. Skyrim, on the other hand, does not even have its Construction Set/Creation Kit yet, so does not stand a chance against a fully modded Oblivion. Point goes to modded oblivion.
