Loving skyrim, now I want Morrowind.

Post » Sun Nov 27, 2011 11:06 pm

I have not completed Skyrim yet and realized I never really played Morrowind. I completed Oblivian.
I had Morrowind but never really tried it.

Now its time.

I bought the GOTY edition on steam for 9 euros.

So, now I need mods.

I know where are topics around this but there is one question I need answered.

I downloaded the 2011 Mod, which is a combination of a ton of mods and especially the textures.
You guys recomend that I use this?

Second: Is there anyway to get higher resolution? Highest I see is 1400-1050. is there a 1900 resolution out there?

And last. Abouot the game. I hear its alot more hardcoe and difficult then especially Oblivian but also Skyrim, I hope this is true.
Today we are more after the game experience and the graphics although are nice, its really not the most important.

I really want to try out Morrowind in a modded version.

I have MCP which seems rather critical, apart from that it seems the 2011 includes everything. Or?

And for you long timers in Morrowind. What is it that really takes it away from especially Oblivian?
Why are you so fond of it?

In Skyrim now I have resorted to play a character with no secondary professions, and loving it. Since I only use pickup gear the combat is often very difficult even on Adept.
My first character with max smithing and high in enchanting just ruined all the fun I had.

And last: Is Marksman worth it in Morrowind? Or is it like in Oblivian, a completely useless damage skill. In Skyrim Archery is very well done but I believe its the first TES where this is complete.
Any suggestions? Or should I just stick to melee.

And: Is there any combination I should stay away from in order to not "exploit" the game. Which I really dont want to do.

Welcome to MW!

Ur using the morrowind graphics and sound overhaul? If not use that instead. The other one is not supported anylonger and the author used mods without permissions.

About mods/fixes, get the Morrowind Patch Project & Texturefix 1.9. Those are pretty essential.

Otherwise its just about personal opinion.

Use MGE to get better graphics, but other than that, if you want to try out Morrowind, don't get mods, that way you'll get the experience as intended without having to fiddle with mods forever before you can play and then spending your playtime making sure the mods work well for you.

This. I recommend trying out vanilla game 1st, that way you'll know things you want replaced the best. Also, while there is no must mod, aside from MCP, Better Clothes and Bodies by psychodogs studios are considered as a must.

I'd amend this slightly.

Get the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19510, and the http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html. These are essentials, as they fix plenty of bugs left untouched by gamesas, as well as fixing a number of issues that could cause saved game corruption.

And just as a suggestion, make a note of the things you wish the vanilla game had as you play it. Then after playing through partway, take a look at the mod categories on PlanetElderScrolls and TES Nexus. Scan through those areas, or do an advanced word search, and see if you can find what you want. For example: if you found yourself wishing you had a house where you could safely drop items off and rearrange them, you'd find several hundred on both those sites.

Im so glad more people are coming into morrowind. Ill try to answer some of your questions the best i can,

Morrowind is more hardcoe than the others i suppose, at earlier levels anyway. Try to just stick to early guild quests untill you level up some, or it will become quite frustrating if u just go off on your own. A lot of enemies can one hit you.

i set my resolution to 1080p with mge through uts interface.
I dont use mw 2011, but rather use the old and outdated itallian morrowind graphic overhaul (2008?) as a base and added hundreds of chosen mods. Vurts and vality7 have some very good stuff.
Also, try out mgeXE which adds shadows to the game.
Another great mod is lgnpc which adds unique dialogue options.
http://lgnpc.org/
Other than these, try it out vanilla. If theres something u dont like, search google for a mod to fix it. That way, you will have the best experience as its what you want.

As for marksman, its good when you use a crossbow. Bows are ok, but you need to be a pretty high level to use them

As for exploits, morrowind is meant for exploiting. If you really want to have the hardest possible experience, put the difficulty on max (the only way to play imo). Its not a health multiplier like skyrim, but just effect overall probabilities. Avoid creeper and the mudcrab (u will know wat i mean wen u see them) and dont take the kings magical ring. Other than that, there is nothing too overpowered in the game, though all armor sets and artifacts are possible to get at lvl 1 if u know ehre to look. Enhcanting can make some very powerful stuff, but it often costs over 30k to make them, so its balanced out.

If you have anymore questions, just pm me.

I highly recommend following knots guide to the letter. It is going to take a couple (a few) hours to set it up, but well worth it in the long run.
Other than the graphic overhaul that his guide details, I agree with others....don't go for any game play changing or quest mods, so that you can play it basically out of the box, with the exception of the graphics overhaul.

Don't get frustrated if it seems like you are not hitting anything with your weapon(s) at first...it will be that way until you get your skill up a bit. Keep swinging!
Marksman is great, but it's true that it's not super effective until higher levels...go for it though...it's a blast!
SPEAR is good also, and it's not in Skyrim or Oblivion so you might want to give that a try!
It's my absolute personal favorite. That and Marksman....but it's up to you of course.

Save often...and ENJOY !
