Shardrock is very nicely located, but also already inhabited. It would make an excellent summer home for my character though :)

Shetcombe Farm can be nice free house, sadly there's no safe container I believe.

Indeed. I have a “Go Get Your Crap Off the Floor of Shetcombe Farm” mini-quest that has been a rite of passage for most of my characters, when they decide on and can afford an official house.
