Chain Spell Mastery

Glad to hear they work, Guys. If that confirms the function of them, it still puzzles me WHY that section was deleted from the wiki. It makes no sense. The important thing is they work. Although it seems that they need to be tweeked, pending the character.

@ Chimpy : I'm wondering, what numbers are you backing off of? Is it the total magicka cost, or the max power of the individual spell added to the Chain?

Almost every playthrough, I make a Custom Fire Spell and/or enchanted Bow, that does 3 damage in 100 ft, as a novelty. Shoot that thing off in a cave...and good luck finding any special loot. It's fun to go out at night, with your Detect Life gear on, stating your total range to around 1400 ft, and see how far out you can take out the little pink dots.

EDIT : My warrior is level 3, with a Destruction of 6 and a Restoration of 27. I was able to make a training Chain Spell of...

Fort Mag - 8 pts for 3 sec on self
Fire Dmg - 3 pts for 1 sec on touch
Casting Cost - 4

For some reason, when the spell is cast, the character assumes the animation of taking fire damage, which makes it very hard to see the target, but actually takes NO damage. The spell still inflicts damage to the enemy. Obviously, a glitch with the mechanics of the Fort Mag.

Here's the thing...It will continue to raise the Destruction Skill, even when no contact is made with the enemy. Thus, one can train Destruction without having to do damage. This can be done anytime, much like training the other magic skills, in total isolation, or just walking around. He went from 6 - 25, in Destruction, in less than 5 min, with No enemy present.

Okay guys I`ve been studying the new Chain Spell formulas some more today and I now fully understand how to do it lol.Even though my Chain Spells use the old method - they`re still good enough to fit into the new 50 Magicka Chain Spell, so that`s not too bad.I have now started work on 100 Magicka and 300 Magicka Chain Spells. Here is an example of a 50-100-300 Chain Spells that I`ve put together earlier today:
Magicka 50 Chain Spell ( Restoration 50 )
fortify magicka 100 pts for 5 sec on self
drain magicka 3 pts for 5 secs on self
restore health 35 pts for 1 sec on self

Magicka 100 Chain Spell ( Destruction 100 )
fortify magicka 100 pts for 3 sec on self
drain magicka 3 pts for 3 sec on self
invisibilty for 3 sec on self
fire damage 100 pts for 1 sec on target
weakness to fire 100% for 3 sec on target
weakness to magic 100% for 3 sec on target

Magicka 300 Chain Spell ( destruction 100 )
fortify intelligence 100 pts for 3 sec on self
fortify magicka 100 pts for 3 sec on self
drain magicka 3 pts for 5 sec on self
invisibilty for 3 sec on self
fire damage 85 pts for 1 sec on target
frost damage 85 pts for 1 sec on target
shock damage 85 pts for 1 sec on target
drain health 100 pts for 5 sec on target
weakness to fire 100% for 3 sec on target
weakness to frost 100% for 3 sec on target
weakness to shock 100% for 3 sec on target
weakness to magic 100% for 3 sec on target
( This spell is totally mind blowing and is now my personnal favourite)
Okay folks, there you go, 3 new examples of the new Chain Spell formulas.I`m going to work on some more over the next few days, then create a new Oblivion character to put them to good use Ha Ha.

Hi there Senior Cinco =)) No - my character has never at any time suffered any damage of any kind from my own spells.I really love the new chain spell formulas, they`re brilliant and really open up a whole new way of playing the game.

First, I'm glad you started this thread. It gave me an interesting way to go with my current character and sparked my interest to further explore the info on the subject.

In regards to the characters, my char doesn't suffer any damage either, BUT he does posses the corresponding effect animation of the spell ON HIM, when he casts them. ie he catches fire, when he casts a Fire Chain Spell. His body flows with sparks, when he casts a Shock Chain Spell. This is in addition to the damage animation and damage delt to the enemy.

The flame effect blocks the view, when casting. It's kind of cool, but you loose track of the target.

Yes it's true, there is an animation on the char. in 3rd person but no harm at all.

Sorry for the delay, but I had to increase my Destr. from 77 to 100 and check a few things.

Now I can answer to Senior Cinco's request about my adjustment on some chain spells like:

Chain of Death: I had to reduce Drain Health from 100 to 75 pts and Weakness to Mag. from 100 to 75 and 5 secs to 2 secs. All this to remain in the 45-49 margin and because my Destruction was still 77.

Now that my Destruction is 100 I can create all these Chain Spells without any problem.

But even reducing some points, at Destr. level 77, it was working well. Now it's only a bit stronger.

I also wonder why nobody could create these spells before? Thanks to Lain and now to you Senior Cinco (the 2 new Masters in Chain Spells) a new perspective of playing Oblivion in a different way has been opened. I had never created a Magician character. Now I'll do it... :celebration:

Yes it's true, there is an animation on the char. in 3rd person but no harm at all.

Is it only in 3rd person, or does it affect your char, in 1st as well?
My char is affected in both, basically blinding me in 1st, with a fire based spell.

Thank you for your explanation. If I understand this right, the Armor Rating / Spell Effectiveness should effect the the total cost of the spell. So, at 95% Spell effectiveness, the 300 spell would need to stop at 285, for it to work properly.

Your skill level should only come into play and effect...

1 - Your ability to even cast a spell at a certain level.
2 - The overall power of the spell being created.

So, as long as your skill level allows you to cast the spell. It should make no difference what your skill level actually is. In other words, if you are able to cast a spell that cost 50 Magicka...example -

Fortify Magicka 100 pts for 3 sec on self
Fire Dmg (x) pts for (y) sec ( adjusting x and y, until your total cost is 50 or as close as you can get to 50, without it going over )
Total cost 50

So, it shouldn't matter if your Destruction Skill is 65 or 100. You should still be able to create a spell that cost 50. It just won't be, as strong as, a spell created at a skill level of 100. If you wear Armor, giving you a Spell Effectiveness of 95%, you have to stop at 47.

Yes it does affect the character in 1st person. But mostly fire damage. It's almost the same with a strong normal spell of fire. But using the last chain spell (100 magicka) that LAIN kindly listed for us, it's not so annoying as it kills in 2 or 3 shots!! I have just killed some goblins in a few minutes. So the visibility for me is not so much a problem. Maybe later with a stronger Chain spell. Will see  Tomorrow I'll go to some Oblivion planes to see the effect on the daedras and monsters.

After your explanations I have to test a few more things. I tried to create the Magicka 300 Spell Chain but I failed. So I must restart it and see where I made a mistake (maybe there is a lack of Magicka in the pool). I have 250 and with 3 more Fort. Mag, of 50 I arrive at 400. But I'm using the 100 one with only 250. Well, still lots of work:-)).

I think we should work on the effectiveness of the chain spells and later when everything is ok, and with the help of LAIN also, we could try to see about this lack of visibility. Do you both agree?

Oh and thank you also SENIOR CINCO for the information about levelling quickly Destruction with your spell. I'll use it.

Hi to both Senior Cinco and Chimpy =)) I`m glad I started this thread also, and it was no problem at all, I`m pleased to have made a difference to people`s way of playing Oblivion. That`s what its all about really, making people more aware of the fact that Chain spells do and have always existed.CHIMPY: its good to hear that you have reached 100 in destruction, so now you can start to play around with spells and have yourself some serious fun Ha Ha.Just follow the new blue prints:
50 Magicka chain spell:
fortify magicka 100 for x sec on self
plus any effects you desire to use the 50 magicka

100 Magicka chain spell:
fortify magicka 100 for x sec on self
drain magicka 3 for x sec on self
any effects you desire to use the 100 magicka

300 Magicka chain spell:
fortify intelligence 100 for x sec on self
fortify magicka 100 for x sec on self
drain magicka 3 for x sec on self
any effects you desire to use the 300 magicka

Between the 3 of us new Chain Spellers we will have a pretty good time now playing around with different spells etc, so use these 3 blueprints and I hope they bring you both good luck and lots of fun =)) I felt it was time to pass on my secrets, especially now that SKYRIM is only 15 days away, as I`ll probably be spending the next 2 years playing it nonstop Ha ha.

THIS IS NOT ORC APPROVED!

Here is the strategy.

Hit them with a Hammer. If that hammer doesnt work, Hit them with a Bigger Hammer, and if that doesnt work hit them with an enchanted Hammer. No enemy has Hammer resistance.

@ Lain and Senior Cinco:

I had started a new char. with birthsign Tower to get Reflect Damage spell. Now that I've reached 50 in Restoration and 100 in Mysticism I have created a new Chain Spell following the Blue Prints that you Lain gave to us.

Fort. Magicka 100 for 3 secs
Absorb Health 5 pts in 10 feet for 2 secs
Reflect Damage 52% for 2 secs.

I went to Dzonot cave to test it and it works so well. Later I'll create a stronger one. But this one kills after 3 times already.

Wish you both pleasant hours of play with Skyrim.

I like your new avatar Senior Cinco :)

EDIT: There is no problem with the visibility...
