I made a Mage my 1st Oblivion Mage o.0 do i buy spells at le

Since unlike in morrowind i cant delete my useless spells is pretty much the main reason i've never been a mage in this game before

reason i finnaly decided to becoem a mage is how when i finnally went back to playing morrowind i realized how underpowered the spells in that game were ...

it took 3x 50 pts of spell damadge in morrowind to kill something simple like a wolf with the difficulty setting set to lowest :/

in this game with difficulty set to lowest i can kill heavy armour wearing goon squards with a spell that does 6 points of damadge on target in a single hit ...

so since i dont want to clutter the oblivion spell list with clone spells or close to same spells or end up having tons of very weak spells like these starter ones i got for joining the mage guild and doing the quest to get into the Arcane University later on when my character is higher level and enmies take more hits to kill

should i buy spells when my spell class's like destruction, mysticism and conjuration hit level 50 or when I master them or should i start buying more spells when i have them at level 75 ?

also on a side note whats up with the chapel priest they tell me they are advanced trainers and then never have the train button box or some time i'll talk to them and they will have a buy spell menue but if i close dialog and open it again its gone or i have to open and close dialog a good 50 times before the spell buying list comes up (was looking for an absorb life spell that did alot of life draining damadge/replenishing best i found was in skingrad i think for 20 pts on target :/ that cant be the best there is non player made?)

SPOILER LIKE QUESTION IN BOX
Spoiler
Spoiler
Spoiler
also whens the best level to make a mage's staff ? i reached level 30 on one my previous saves before doing any quest and made a paralyse staff but it only did 7 points of paralyse :/
dont say I didn't warn you :/

I'm pretty sure all the staffs do the same no matter what level you are. I could be wrong though.

Buy the cheapest version of spells, and make new ones as your skills improve.

Why does it make a difference if your spell list is cluttered with old spells? Time stops when you open the menu anyway. Clutter that menu! This is the stuff your Mage knows! :)

Just name your newer spells so they appear at the top of the alphabetical list. Hot-key the ones you're planning to use.

Are you on PC? If so then there are ways of deleting spells, even custom made ones. The mod is called Spell Delete but you need OBSE to make it work.

Up to you on when to buy or make spells. Unfortunately the way the game is built I pretty much always end up with spells that become useless.

For the mage's staff, it maxes out at level 15. And just a few seconds of paralysis is very powerful, in my opinion.

so even the spells that do 75-110 points of damadge on target will become useless ?

also where can i get a soul trap on target spell ? i keep finding on touch but i dont really need 2 spells of it but if a soul trap on target is only available if its player made where can i get one of the longest duration or is 20 seconds on touch best i can get :/

also this play through id really like to get the five finger of the mountain as bad as it may be in magica cost whats the best level to get it at so i can get maximum damadge from it but not need like an impossible amount of mana for a single cast (so getting it at level 30 is definatly no cuz will cost almost 1k mana)

I think 75-100 damage spells are powerful at any level. I was thinking of the less powerful ones.

Where to get that spell might be a spoiler so I sent you a message.

I don't bother with the Fingers of the Mountain spell any more, since you can make more powerful ones with less magicka yourself. And I like Earana's reaction when I tell here to shove off.

I'm just wondering what you're planning to do on those intermediate levels, when your "starter spells" aren't strong enough any more, but you can't cast the strong versions yet.

Are you sure that this character is really a Mage? :)

That may actually work out fine. You'll be able to get lots of good staffs if you go after Necromancers and Conjurers. :)

Sounds like a true mage to me

Though you might want to consider light or nighteye spells/potions instead of a mundane torch.
