How to justify playing after MQ?

This is just something I was thinking about. After you complete the main quest, your character becomes a world-renowned hero. He/she is a god-incarnate, and has accomplished amazing feats. Now, how can you justify (as I said, from a role-playing perspective) joining the Imperial Legion or something like that and completing that quest line? It just doesn't make sense for this hero to decide to be a lowly soldier in the Legion or some mercenary in the Fighter's Guild. Thoughts?

You aren`t even near to being a god unless you tampered with the Hearth of Lorkhan and gave yourself godly powers (which you apparantly cannot do in an unmodded game). You`re merely a saint believed to be reincarnated. And it`s not like you got there without any help from some good friends. As for the fighters guild and legion... it is true that they aren`t exactly big time. But you aren`t so big time either anymore. Remember the prophecy? You were basically immortal once you picked up Nerevar`s ring. You could arguably say that you were immortal from the moment you saw the dream about Azura while being in that ship you started your game in. Why? Because you were automatically protected by the prophecy and safeguarded by Azura herself. Now that you`ve filled the prophecy, you no longer have a god watching your back. You can now die. With that in mind, consider taking a few smaller freelance jobs. Nothing too dangerous... unless you really want to tempt fate. Because fate is no longer your ally. Remember that.

Or you could go to Mournhold and do quests there. Or maybe Solstheim where noone knows who this nerevarine guy is. Both places have quests and monsters to match or even trump the epic value of what you faced at Red Mountain.

Well I find that if you plan things right, then you should do the MQ’s last. I develop my character first, by maxing attributes and skills. I do the propylon index quest and maybe a few other miscellaneous quests. Then I quest to the top of all seven factions (Imperial Cult and Legion, Mage/Fighter/Thieves Guilds, Morag Tong and Tribunal Temple). Now I save the game to a special file. Next, I do one Great House all the way to the top and then reload and do the next until I’ve done all three (since you can only do one in game). Last, I pick one save game (usually Hlaalu) and knock out the MQ’s. This way you get the full experience. Do all of this without ever dying, then retire your character and start again.

Just so you know, there`s a mod out there that lets you join all houses and build all strongholds...

Thanks! I haven't tried that mod...yet. I usually just do the quest where I whack the builders of the other two strongholds.

In the cutscene at the end, azura tells you that there are still threats to the safety of Morrowind in the world, so you could just go and try to make the world a better place. By killing bad guys and taking their stuff.
