There are destructible buildings in Crysis 1 for consoles according to the new trailers so, since that was also done on cryengine 3, we can assume the feature was removed from crysis 2 for gameplay purposes

Probably was removed due to rushing, they implemented one part but didn't have time for making the rest work? Or maybe even performance concerns, this is console hardware we're talking about.
the issue was not hardware limitation more gameplay issues. Being able to blast through walls and take buildings down was not an option crytek wanted to give the players (after all the tech demo was running on console hardwares and Geomod runs perfectly on consoles and we all know what that engine can do)
