Yeah, I can't say I am looking forward to Homefront 2. The first Homefront's story was so stupid which is why I don't plan on ever playing it. North Korea militarily taking over the U.S.A.? STUUUPID!!!! Maybe it's just me, but I thought Red Dawn was a stupid movie and thus the game's story is stupid.
I don't think the setting is stupid at all.
Invading during massive economic problems is strategically plausible.
After all, the USA's power lies heavily in its economy, and defence is expensive.
Plausible? As bad as the economy is right now, North Korea has eons to catch up and be able to do invade anyone. They can't even afford to invade the south. They would all starve. The plot is stupid. North Korea couldn't invade anyone because defeating them would be as easy as cutting off their food imports. Not to mention, militarily they are no match. North Korea invading the USA is laughable.
The only reason North Koreans kind of made sense in the original Crysis is that they lost Kim Jung Ill and he was replaced by a military general who did things to improve their economy, thus enabling them to be a national player. However, without a hypothetical like that the idea of North Korea being able to invade anyone or anywhere is laughable.
North Korea is the most isolated country in the world and they weild no big stick to hit people with. Even their latest "nuke" test was a dud.
So, big USA fan huh?
Did you know that the plot originally involved China as the invaders, but was changed because their economy is so tied to the USA's, so that would not have been plausible?
That Korea couldn't invade right now is largely irrelevant. The fact is, it is absolutely plausible (although very unlikely, granted) that situations such as those outlined in Homefront's plot could occur.
