My opinion of crysis

Before I begin I would like to first say that Crytek did an excellent job on porting it to consoles, hopefully they'll be able to do it with the other Crytek, Crysis games too (crysis warhead, crysis wars)

As a player of the PC version I have to say I was very impressed with how intact they kept the console version, nearly everything is there, trees, bushes (although reduced in most parts) and they still managed to keep the draw distance the same if not better compared to the pc version. Unfortunately for me, being only 14 has its downsides, I could not afford the best computer. My computer was just had a gtx 250 and a 1.8 ghz processor (forgot the name of it) I cant really remember all the parts but a year ago I was really big on computers and was always asking my dad to help me afford a better one. This computer I had was also very lacking in the customization department. The computers motherboard had no name so i couldnt tell, and the case was small and un-named so I didnt know if anything could fit inside it.
So when i first booted up the game on pc I was kind of dissapointed the fps on medium easily went down to 10 on the first level due to a horrible cpu bottleneck, but my bios was locked, and overclocking the graphics card didnt do ****.
So coming to the game on console was pretty good because i could finally experience it with a good framerate, and it easily looking as good as medium if not better.

So far I finished the campaign and i can say that the game on console fairs pretty well compared to the pc, It looks great and they did a good job of keeping the fps at 25-30 and no less than that. I have to say I enjoyed this more than a slow version on the pc that had half as many visual goodies as this. Also the lighting is superb, and foliage has a nice blue tone to it that makes it blend together wth parts of the environment and other bits of foliage too.

Overall I recommend it, especially if you had a hard time running it on pc or if you havent played it at all.

For me it remains a "best on" PC game.
Same for battlefield 3, rage and so on.
These games show how advanced the tech nowadays really is ... with Crysis 1 as a modded version you can reach grfx that are not even the standard for todays games. Its nice to see what optical tricks and optimizations Crytek used to make a consoleport from a game realeased in 2007.
But its nothing that pushes the boundaries. They spend to much time considering how to make old pc grfx from 2007 work on consoles in 2011.
Thats really weird when you see the techical process that has been achieved so far

And speaking of PC hardware. For about 450 bucks you can build a PC that runs the original C1 with the most awesome mods @ 33 FPS constant.
I remember being a teen with almost no money but my monthly pocket money. I saved all i could get for 2 years to build a Pc with a Riva TNT card. Ohh good ol` times.

You're exactly right crysis is still probably my favourite pc game ever and also one of my favourite games of all time (replay value on pc is massive with mods) however, in Australia pc parts are outrageously expensive, a gtx 580 costs around 600- 700 AUD. and i dont get much pocket money, only 80 AUD every 3 months so my choices are somewhat limited, it would take me at least 4 years at my current income to save up for a comp. Also i live in a family of 6, so prioritising money for 1 child over another is quite difficult.

Anyway i recently found an absolute steal of a bargain at a local computer store, here are the specs

I7 2600 3.6 ghz (unlocked bios)
2x GTX 560 ti sli
P8P67 mobo
Dual channel 8gb ram (2x4gb vengeance corsair)
850 watt power supply atx
Western digital caviar black 2TB hard drive 7200 rpm and corsair 120 gb ssd
HAF RC-932 case

absolute steal at 2000 AUD, I might start saving and maybe ask dad for some help, we need a new pc anyways the one we have now has a heap of viruses :(

Hmm.. currency calculator tells me that 600 - 700 AUD are about 430 -510 €.
In my favorite german online hardwareshop the 1536MB Point of View GeForce GTX 580 Aktiv PCIe 2.0 x16 costs 454 €.
That would be 626,6473 AUD. So youre hardwareprices in australia are the same over here in germany..

So what about that system:
AMD PHENOM II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition CPU, 3.2GHz (125W) $144.51
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P MB, AMD 760G + $75.31
4GB ECC DDR3 1333 $62.61
Cooler Master Extreme Series 600W PSU $98.02
Gainward GTX570 Phantom $362.34
-------------
Thats a pretty cool PC i would say for 749,79 $ AUD

You just have to choose a tower ...

I got all the prices from here http://www.eyo.com.au/

( Also the phantom can easily be overcklocked to a 580 and higher ;-) )
