Crysis Warhead on Consoles?

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:54 am

I would love to see warhead and would buy it instantly. The word of mouth has always been it was the better game. My only problem is the framerate needs attention for consoles. Some type of mp would be nice as well considering that game is short. Crytek REALLY needs to show off warhead sooner than a month before release this time, I have at least three friends that saw me playing crysis 1 on their friends list and messaged me about it, they had no clue it was even coming out!! Insanely terrible job of marketing on EAs part. Absurb really.

It's not a better game, it's a completely different type of game.

The original plays like a first-person Metal Gear Solid, in the sense that you are encouraged and generally required to use stealth, Binoc reconnaissance and 'hit and run' attacks to succeed and avoid death.

In Warhead, there is a shift to a more 'run and gun' style of gameplay. You can still use the stealth method, and it yields great results, but the amount of missiles, vehicles and the general turn of the plot means you end up in a lot more open firefights than you would have done in Crysis.

It largely depends on which type of gameplay you enjoy, as to which of the two you'll prefer; however on consoles I suspect a 'run and gun' style of play is probably more popular.

The game slogans indicate the difference

Slogan for Crysis: Adapt, engage, survive

Slogan for Warhead: Adapt, engage, dominate

I played Warhead but, but only once and i can't remember it as well as the original. I was under the impression from reviews that it was not quite as big and open as the original, and thus thought it may perhaps be more port-friendly than the original crysis.

Would you agree with that Mickey? or would they be as difficult as easch other, or perhap more difficult with the tendancy for more firefights and more action putting strain on the fps

Well, it's been a while since I last loaded it up but IIRC there are more explosions and such in Warhead; however, probably no more going on at any point than the final boss of Crysis, did that cause problems on consoles?

It is a little more enclosed, but it's done well enough that it's not constantly noticeable. I would imagine it is at least as portable as the first.

i don't think the final boss caused too much problem, although I'm not particularly sensitive to frame rate drops, i just kinda get on with it.

The biggest problem for me was the first time i played the final boss, the game completely skipped the whole part of the level in which you go below deck and put down nuclear rod things and go get the tac cannon etc.

I didn't remember how i got the tac cannon from the time i played on PC and was running round the deck looking for the tac cannon for ages lol

Yes to Warhead on Console / Live and let Live, PC Gamers
(responding to several PC gamers constantly voicing their discontent about console gaming in this threat)

Despite the achievement glitches on "Tooled Up" and "Dedication" and the painfully embarrassing "Stucking Enemies Bug" in campaign, they don't seem to want to fix, Crytek is still one of my most favorite game developers and I Love Them for bringing Crysis 2 and Crysis to Xbox 360!

I was gaming on PC some years back, but I could never, nor will I in the near future be able to afford a high end PC to play on. I was close to tears when Crysis came to PC, knowing I could never play it. That's why I got myself an Xbox 360 some years back, so I could at least play on console again. And I just can't understand how many PC gamers just won't get that there are way more people today who just can't afford a high end gaming PC, as Europe is entering a recession, and the US will even enter a real depression soon.

YES!...the Xbox360 hardware components are a pile of chinese junk, and YES, the hardware is outdated, but it also forces companies like Crytek >(if they want to sell enough units to survive!)< to not only be innovative in the original PC sector when it comes to pushing the boundries of the possible forward; but it also gives them the challenge (which they skillfully mastered) to configurate their Cryengine in a way that it makes the games look as beautiful on Xbox 360 as they possibly can on this 2005 hardware, without having to compomize on the wrong ends.

Honestly: Why are PC gamers so affraid of a highly innovative company like Crytek bringing games for consoles? According to Vgchartz.com they only sold 0.33M copies on PC worldwide, compared to 1.00M on Xbox 360 alone, together with the 0.75M copies on PS3; despite of generating the least of revenue of all three platforms, Crytek will still be making games for PC. http://bit.ly/oEjTQY

Let's be honest here, please: Do you really believe that a company investing so much time and money in a single game can survive on just 0.33M units? I don't think so.

On the other hand, I don't think there is an economic reason for Crytek to not wanting to sell those extra little 0.33M units on PC, and the platform gives them lots of room to be innovative and to push the limits. From there they can always downgrade to a console version. According to Sten Hübler it is not that big of a problem with Cryengine 3 at least, and also it was always the plan to bring Crysis to consoles one day. http://bit.ly/q5v7Ha

Bottom Line:

1.) I would LOVE to see Crysis Warhead for Xbox 360, and would buy it in an instant.
2.) PC will always be the high end platform on which you would want real innovations to take place first, as it gives you much more room to experiment with the ceiling of possibilities much higher/endless.

P3AC3 OUT!

I would buy Crysis Warhead in a heartbeat if Crytek ever feels the urge to release it on consoles. They have done an outstanding job porting Crysis to consoles. I am very confident that Warhead (if it ever sees the light of day on consoles) will look better than the first Crysis port.
I also agree about the dedication achievement/trophy, it is NOT a gamebreaker for me and I don't understand why there are so many people on this forum biching about Crytek's support, after all, they released patches for Crysis 2.
Hopefully Warhead will run better on my PS3 and feature at least some foliage interaction, but other than that, I am very happy of the current state of Crysis on my PS3.
However, after having played the first Crysis I can clearly say that part 2 is the better game, Crysis 2 feels a lot more polished and focused.
But I digress.

By which of course you mean linear.

On PC the original Crysis is ten times the game that Crysis 2 is. But, if you don't like open levels and the ability to think and choose your method of attack beyond 3 glowing markers, then I guess Crysis 2 is for you.

I enjoyed Crysis.
I also like the wide range options, how to approach an enemy base, go in with guns blazing or take a more stealthy approach. The nanosuit also makes you think more about your future actions due to its very limited energy (it's draining pretty fast) compared to the overpowered N2.
But on console it feels like a cheap PC game.
I'm sorry Mickey :(

@ xP3AC3MAK3Rx

I cant afford a trip into Space.
But my lack of funding doesnt effect a stagnation in rocket science.
So because of the fact that so many people own consoles coupled with the long lifespan cause a stagnation in PCgaming and in the prgress of grfx.

It would make sense to focus on the PC again and get back to the roots of the company by improving the technology instead on focussing to convert old PC games for old consoles.

i completely agree.
i personally think that the 'press start' bug honestly ruined the prospect of crysis on console.
I kinda feel that Crytek is Ditching the PC fans who made the company where it is, but hey thats my opinion.
What do you guys think??

Well, coming from the viewpoint of a console gamer who started on Crysis 2 before playing Crysis, I feel that Crytek owes it to both the PC and console gaming communities to deliver an incredible follow up that anyone on any platform can agree to being "successful". In the eyes of console gamers, Crysis 2 was a success, but in the eyes of PC gamers it failed to deliver that same caliber of gameplay from the original Crysis, which I do agree with but at the same time I still feel like Crysis 2 is a great game in it's own right (atleast when you compare it to other console FPS games like CoD).

So for Crysis 3, they should make the game open ended like in the first, even if that means the graphics aren't as good as Crysis 2 when it comes to consoles. Crytek had to drastically reduce the resolution amongst other things when they released the original Crysis to get the game running on CryEngine 3 without experiencing a massive FPS drop, but now that console gamers have been able to witness (IMO from a technical standpoint) the greatest FPS game ever made, fans are going to expect the bar that Crysis 1 was at for their next game, not 2. If the PC version ends up being way better, and if they have to cut some things for the console release, then so be it. I just want Crysis 3 to be as awesome as the original from a gameplay perspective and as awesome as the sequel from a narrative perspective. Crysis 3 will undoubtedly be released on the next gen console, so who knows where technology will be by that point and maybe this entire discussion will become moot. I can only hope that Crytek considers both communities this time when working on Crysis 3 so that way everyone has something to be happy about :)

I don't think converting an older game like Crysis Warhead from Cryengine 2 to Cryengine 3 so it can run on consoles is in anyway "ditching the PC" fans. I mean the PC gamers still got the best version of the games(Crysis and Crysis Warhead if that comes too). It's not like making a console version of Crysis Warhead would take that long either. Either way by the time Crysis 3 is due I'm sure that Crytek will have a whole new stepping stone for the PC community. ;)

There's an installation limit, right? Doesn't matter, I installed it and it ran like crap. Worse than Crysis 1 in fact. I'll play it next year when I buy a new PC.

You're right, but after making both crysis and crysis 2 on console, there's no way they won't make crysis 3 for console as well. Those PC gamers are just going to have to svck it up and understand that crytek realized they make more money off of consoles. But then again asking a PC gamer to calm down and stop trolling is like asking a crazy monkey not to rip your ears off.

@ NANOPROv2

I have nothing against console versions at all.
But Crytek decided to release Crysis 2 with laughable textures and almost no options to config the game and no mod-tools.
All the other AAA -multiplatformtitles did better since Crysis 2 came out. Battlefield 3 is remarkably better than the console versions for example.
Or future titles like Skyrim: It will come out with mod tools from day 1. Batman Arkham City will have better textures and impressive physx effects etc. There will be no complains there because DICE, Bethesda and Rocksteady know how to please PC gamers.. Crytek provoked the reactions they received since the release of Crysis 2.

Yeah Crysis 2 should've been released with the DirectX 11 feature instead of that being a patch "for the high-end community".

And yes Batman Arkham City looks beautiful on PC. Especially with PhysX on!

Bring Crysis Warhead to consoles Crytek! SOON!!!
