I'm also having a problem with this quest, although at a different stage.
After doing everything I was supposed to do in Nelson, I was told to go back to major Polatli, but the problem is, I can't talk to him about the quest any more. There is simply no such option when I talk to him and therefore I'm unable to finish this quest.

Is there something I've missed or is there a way to use the console to make the game think I've finished the quest?
I'm having the same freaking issue. I stormed Nelson with three soldiers, among them a sergeant, and took the village. After that the sergeant is happy that I helped them and the PIP shows that I should go back to Polatli. No dialogue option to finish the quest, even though people standing near his tent are joyful that Nelson had been retaken. How disheartening.
I also don't have a save to re-do it.
I chose the option to attack via the ridge. I knew I should have chosen the other one. Too late now. Btw. one of the soliders died during the attack (not the sergeant). They also didn't follow into the building with the leader so I assumed I had to finish him and his two lackeys myself. The soldiers stopped next to their crossed camerades. I freed them after dealing with the leader. After that I headed back to Polatli and no dialogue was offered to finish the mission.
Sequence:
took the mission
met up with the sergeant and his two guys
chosen the ridge
ran after the soldiers running towards Nelson
killed everyone along the way
reached the middle of the town with the crossed NCRs (that's where one of the soldiers died)
killed off everyone attacking us
entered the building
had a conversation with the leader (what are you going to do about it)
killed the bastard
killed his lackeys
spoke to the sergeant (no dialogue)
cut off the guys on the crosses
headed back to Polatli
no dialogue (PIP indicates mission should be completed by talking to Polatli though)
I think I took all the kills although I'm not entirely sure.
