Would you want Morrowind remade?

Post » Wed Nov 30, 2011 11:04 am

I know people always say remakes of games are not a good idea...but the GoldenEye remake and Halo remake look mint...In my opinion, classics should only be remade. Halo, for the most popular series of all did look bland in the first game and I know it's old..I've been playing that for a long time...but a remake never crossed my mind so I love the new updated anniversary edition. GoldenEye was also an amazing movie-game title but what made that game great was some of the unintentional humor.

If they keep everything that made Morrowind a great ES game, but improving things like combat, voice acting, character models and graphics(possibly using the Creation engine) would you guys BUY it?

They don't really NEED to make Fallout 4...TES was always their baby and I hear that they had a license to only make 3 Fallout games. They've made FO3, Obsidian made F:NV so I guess that's 2 more, or 1 more if NV counts. I'm not saying that's fact, but I just hear it was a deal for 3 games...but it could be a wrong rumor and they actually own the entire series now and can make as many as they want.

In 2006-2009 they focused on BOTH Oblivion and Fallout 3, in terms of patches, expansions, dlc etc. Now they only have Skyrim to focus on and its bug fixes and eventual epic expansions. Could they not, in the mean time, also work on a Morrowind remake? With the same engine, and all they need to do is get some voice acting. Really, look at FO3. They released that in 4th quarter 2008, while Oblivion was finished in 4th quarter 2005 and pushed back to March 2006. It took them that long to write alot of the stuff for FO3, design its features, make the levels, voice acting, maps, dungeons, dlc, and it was a lot more complicated than Oblivion. Here all they need to do is use the creation engine and redo the textures and possibly redo things like sounds, maybe some new features. It probably wouldn't take them more than a year-year and a half? They don't need to add anything in.

What bugged me the most is the combat, and don't tell me to just play it on the pc with mods because that's not the point.

Do you think if enough of us TES fans demanded, that they would consider a Morrowind remake? Perhaps a large enough poll? LOL. I'll keep it simple.

If anything, they'd probably only do it if they knew it guaranteed some big bucks to help them out with idk..Fallout 4. So would you buy it if it was made quickly or something?

No I would rather a new province. There is so much more that can be done so why go back to somewhere already explored

It is a little unrealistic to hope for a remake, but a revisit of the setting, why not. Though you better believe it will be every bit as "accessible" as Skyrim.

No. New provinces if anything, as going over old ground will appeal only to a minority I suspect.

Because it's just a texture/combat update. Skyrim will keep us plenty busy. And people will surely revisit Morrowind if updated the way Halo is. They could maybe add new DLC as well. I'm not saying they should spend the next 4-5 years on a Morrowind remake, which probably wouldn't take that long anyway. They did Fallout 3 after Oblivion, and TES:V another 3 years after FO3. Oblivion was finished in late 2005 but pushed back to March 2006. Basically that's 3 years apart from 3 VERY big and great titles. Something like Morrowind retextured probably won't take more than a year or so. They can also focus on Fallout 4 at the same time.

You keep mentioning a new province, but they already just did a new one :P. Expect to wait 5-6 years for TES:VI anyway.

If they did it I would be very interested and I would definetly buy it. It's just given the choice I would prefer something new.

Although I have to admit seeing Morrowind with Skyrim's level of beauty environments, weather etc would be intriguing

I am not an expert but could that realistically be done?

It has already been done by the community:

They're supposedly working on a gameplay update too.

I've never been able to get past the crude graphics and the non tactile non twitch combat. I'd love to see it with real combat and advanced graphics. But I'd prefer to see a new land more than Morrowind.

For something like a retexture/limited edition release after all provinces have been done then yes id fully support this idea but right now new provinces and content to the existing game is whats important to the community.

Yep! :)

See. that's always the go-to answer. Everyone would rather have a 'new' province, but a new province and game entirely takes at least 3 years-5 years to make with Bethesda's track record. Yet they made Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim all 3 years apart from each other. They did Fallout 3 from scratch, albeit with the same engine, they had to make up a lot of the lore while borrowing from FO2. Skyrim also had everything completely re-done. I'd say they are doing an amazing job and at this rate they can surely do a Morrowind update, or even let Obsidian do it(if Beth can test glitches)

So it's not a matter of *new game* or *remake*. We can have both surely. Who knows when TES:VI will come out anyway, as TESV barely released. I'd say another 5-7 years or so. In that time, plenty to make FO4 and Morrowind to keep us busy ;)

If you want better graphics, then you just mod the PC version. The only thing Bethesda could do is update the engine and improve combat and gameplay mechanics, which would take a long time. It would pretty much be impossible to do voiced dialogue for all of Morrowind's text.

Even if they do full voice dialog and keep the same level of dialog, Bethesda tends to use a small group of voice actors so everyone sounds alike. I prefer text dialog over everyone sounding the same.

Yeah I never understood that. There's no way to contact them and let them know we'd do the dialogue for free? Obviously it's too late for Skyrim(the guards still sound the same, I guess they just have more 'important' characters to voice) but for Fallout 4 there's no way to contact them? It's kind of ridiculous that they only go for celebs for alot of the voice acting...

I'd buy it if it was remade but I'd much rather prefer that Bethesda work on Skyrim DLC then Fallout 4 then Elder Scrolls VI.

Bethesda has to work on Fallout 4 and TES VI.

If they took the time to remake Morrowind, that means waiting several more years for Fallout 4 and/or TES VI.

Given what modders have already done with improving Morrowind, I don't imagine that it would pay off given the development time and cost involved.

Oh, for god's sake, enough with MW remake threads already!

Though the game could use a update patch, mainly for the code, cuz you know the drill: it crashes, and crashes, and crashes some more.

Honestly unless you are on console, just install the Graphics Overhaul for Morrowind, and then whatever gameplay mods take your fancy, and boot it up again. I would much prefer a new province, considering I can't really see Bethesda doing much more with Morrowind past what the modding scene has made available to us.
