Manually picking up and placing objects on XBOX : V

I looked in the manual but found nothing.

I am in a dungeon where a remote gate is operated by activating a pressure plate on a table. I did manage to shuffle around enough to kick a wooden dish onto the plate but that cannot be the mechanic the developers intended.

How the hell do you pick something up and drop it in a specific location with the XBOX controller?

Press and hold A.

Press and hold the loot/interact button for a few seconds and leave it go and you will be moving the object, press it again to release the object.
PS: I have activated pressure plate traps by shooting them with an arrow, sending a companion to that point and also projectile spells.

Somewhat on topic...

Is there a way to rotate / manipulate the object while you're holding it?
