Is it possible to wear out the cd? Sometimes I have to re-insert a few times before it will load.

CDs can wear out. I'd suggest giving it a gentle cleaning - look online for details on the safest way to do this. You could also consider a CD resurfacer, although I've only ever used them for music CDs.

You can get these things fixed in various stores.

My GOTY edition was hurting too all 3 cd's (besides the CS) and I got em fixed for 5 euros/ CD and they are working fine now.
