Men & Monstrosities

Okay, so as those few readers should know; I ditched the idea of Ben for just a little bit. "A Broken Universe" was a filler of sorts, and I'm sorry to say that's over, but if anyone wants an ending I'll gladly deliver.

I've changed the story completely, and you can ignore the old thread about this story. Sorry for wasting your time with that old thread :sadvaultboy:. Anyhoo, this one is completely different, but will still involve the characters from my last story; http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=1034669 <---- You might want to read that, before reading this one. Character back story, and all.

One last thing, I'm still thanking Inferoo for the story idea, as that still applies :D

Men & Monstrosities

A man was down on his knees, shivering, whimpering, crying... A black bag covered his face, and all he could see was the small amount of light finding it's way through the tiny holes in the mask.

A horrifying roar filled the room he was trapped in, and the sound of something scraping the ground was followed soon after.

The man started to yell, while trying to break through his restraints. He kept pulling his hands apart, until the rusted handcuffs broke apart.

He took off his mask, and was greeted by the breath of a monstrous, orange-furred creature. It showed it's giant sharp teeth, and the man jumped back. He cowered as he started to cry. A wet spot started to form on his pants, and it grew larger by the second.

The monster roared again, and put up it's paw. Claws popped from the furry hand, and the monster swiped at the man. His shirt was torn completely, and blood started to pour from his stomach. The man tried using his hands to stop the blood from leaving his body, but it was to no avail.

It let out another vicious roar, and tackled the crying man. It's massive weight made it impossible for the man to breath, and he tried his best to bat the beast away. The creature opened it's giant mouth, and bit down on the man's chest.

It toyed with the man, until finally taking him out of his misery by biting into his neck. The monster was practically swimming in the man's blood when it ripped his head clean off. The lifeless body fell to the ground. The beast finished it with just two more bites.

The monster curled up in a ball, and put it's tail around itself. The magnificent being purred, as it licked it's paws. The Lion started to clean itself, as a door behind it opened.

An old man walked through the door, and walked up to his pet. He started to pet it, and let out a hearty laugh.

"So much potential, and it will very well be used!" He said, excited.

Ben sat in his regular booth at the NCR Hotel. On the table, a bottle of Rum was sitting next to a cup half full of the liquid. He was slouched over, with his hand in his hair. Drunk.

A woman walked over to the table, and sat down next to him.

"Hey baby, you look like you need a great night."

Ben happily agreed, handed her a handful of caps, and made his way out of the booth. As he got to his feet, a man dressed similar as him walked into the hotel.

"Hey, Ben! C'mon, we've got a job to do."

Ben frowned, "What's the job?"

"I'll tell you in the car, let's go."

Ben looked to the girl, and held out his hand expecting for his money back.

"Sorry Hun, no refunds." She said, walking away.

Ben growled at her angrily and sarcastically, and turned to follow the man. He reached the car, opened the door, got in, then finally realized his friend had a car.

"Uh, Joseph? Why do you have a car? The police will have your head for this thing."

"Who do you think gave it to me, Ben? They also gave us the job. We're going to the station, and picking up some guy named Mackenzie to help us."

Ben laughed, "Mackenzie is a girl's name. What's the job?"

"We're checking out some Zoo. Someone disappeared there. The Chief didn't want to send his own men, so they hired us. But that Mackenzie guy insisted he went. He claimed he knew you, and that he wanted to work with you again."

"Mackenzie? Hm, I guess the name sounds kind of familiar. Guess I'll know when I see him, eh?"

Josh, that's a bit much for a mediocre-at-best story :P But thanks for the love :foodndrink:

EDIT: That second bit really applies to everyone else.

Three, Two, One... Zero.

Joseph slammed on the breaks, just a few inches away from a parked patrol car. Ben flew forward, and smashed his face on the vehicle's dashboard. He bolted up, holding his bloody nose.

He yelled, “Great! Wonderful! Amazing driving, Joseph!”

Ben stormed at the car, still holding his nose. He was talking to himself all the way to the police station door. Joseph joined him in front of the door, before they both stormed in as loud as they could.

“Knock, knock!” Joseph yelled, walking into the Chief's office.

An overweight man was leaning back in his chair. His feet were on his desk, and were accompanied by a smoldering hot cup of coffee. A doughnut was in the chief's left hand.

Ben chuckled, “This is where stereotypes are born.”

The chief put his doughnut down, but not after taking one last bight. He stood up, and greeted the two men standing in his doorway.

“Joseph! It's good to see you back so soon. This must be your partner Ben?” The chief shook Ben's hand.

“Delighted.” Ben said to the chief.

“Mackenzie!” The chief yelled, “Get in here!”

A tall, muscular man walked up behind Ben. His hair was short, and he had a 5 o' clock shadow. He smiled at the sight of Ben.

“Ben! It's great to see you again. You must remember me, it's only been a year.”

“I can't say I do.” Ben said, feeling strange about it.

There was an awkward silence, but then Mack realized his current state, and how it was different from his old one.

“You saved my ass in VC? You probably remember me being the scrawny, old looking, pathetic one.”

“Oh yeah!” Ben exclaimed, “You're the guy who threw up on me.”

Ben was smiling, and shaking his head up and down. Mack was speechless.

The chief walked to a file cabinet, and started to go through each folder. Eventually, he pulled out a folder, and threw it on his desk. He opened it up, and exposed a picture of a man.

“He went missing, his wife says he's never gone for so long when he's out examining the area. He broke into some Zoo, apparently we was the first. Somehow, we missed the place all these years. It's been a week, and he hasn't come back home.

“To be honest, I think he's just another man who doesn't have the survival skills. We'll probably find his dead body outside of the Zoo somewhere.

“But! It is our duty to investigate. We sent some men earlier, but they retreated because of scary sounds. Sounds queer, I know, but I'm sure we'd all run away at the sounds. Unless money is involved. Take the folder, it'll tell you everything else. Now go do your job. See you men soon.” The chief explained, he kicked them out of his office.

“Hey, Mack?” Ben asked, “What's a 'Zoo'?”

***

A woman's face was covered by a blood soaked mask. Two men stood on both sides of her, she only knew because of how close they were. Neither one made a sound.

One of the men took her mask off. She was in a dark room, with only one light on, on a high ceiling. Something in a dark corner was breathing hard, and made a growling sound like it was a snore.

A door opened in front of the girl, and an old man stepped through the doorway. A smile appeared on his face, when he saw the girl. He walked around her, and slid a card through her restraints. The cuffs beeped, but did nothing.

The old man motioned for the men to follow him, and they did. As the three reached the door, the girl realized what was happening, and started to demand answers.

“What do you want with me!” She yelled, crying.

The man smiled, and looked back. “Live bait.”

He shut the door, and the other lights flickered through the room. It was a warehouse, a large one. An observation deck was up on the wall, and the three men quickly made their way up there.

“Thirty second head start.” The man said over an intercom, remotely releasing the girl.

“What's happening!” She screamed.

“Twenty-nine... Twenty-eight.” The man said over the speaker.

The girl heard a roar, and she turned around. The lion sat there, ready to pounce when his master said “Zero.” The girl started to run to the other side of the warehouse.

“Three... Two... One...” The man paused. “Zero.”
