Is Bethesda fixing the PS3 progressive lag issue?

Post » Thu Dec 01, 2011 5:49 am

The game is a blast! I would love to experience it without the consistent frame rate dips and freezing though. First ten hours and I experienced no issues. But then after I reached the dreaded 6mb size, everything just got progressively worse. Thankfully I have not gotten to the point where I cannot talk to NPCs but I feel it coming. Every time I kill a dragon, the game freezes when it combusts into flames. So I cannot kill any dragons to harvest souls. :/

I emailed Bethesda two days ago and have not gotten a response yet. Wondering if calling their support number would work. (301-926-8300)
Went to their resolution center, and it has not been listed as a known problem yet. So has there been any sign of them even addressing that this is a problem?

(PS3 120gb owner by the way)

Yes, it is only a PS3 issue. Well it seems to be so far.

Well that is what makes it worse! Only a group of PS3 owners are experiencing this. Which makes me believe they will not fix this issue.

I'm experiencing the same problems as you, and i have spoken to 5 friends, who all report similar issues.

If Bethesda isn't even aware of this problem, they lose respect from me.

PC players moan about bad ports, but the PS3 suffers just as much in that respect!

Go to the PS3 Subforum, literally half the threads are about this. It makes the game unplayable eventually, and so far no Bethesda employee has acknowledged this GAME BREAKING problem.

Yeah, I started noticing it after about 7mb. It's disastrous when you're fleeing out of a city and into a forest from 10 guards and a Frost Troll.

First thought that comes to mind.
Fragmented data.

I dont own a ps3.
Im not even SURE if you install skyrim on the ps3 harddrive.
but I would imagine you do.

or do you not? does it all load completely off the disc?

If you do. Do ps3's suffer from framentation? I dont know how they could avoid it, adding and removing 5gig chunks to a smaller'' hard drive would frament the freespace and eventually become and issue.
I would imagine.

If it were my PS3, I would completely empty the hard drive and do a fresh install. If thats even possible. I dont know.

I know PC's suffer from this if they are mindless of the details.

I have this problem with some games or at least had. This is what I do and it works. Disconnect from the internet. Signing out helps a little but with a Internet connection you'll still get lag because of the notifications. Disable the connection and it should help a good bit. I have ran tests on many different games and it really does work for me. I would not know if this works with skyrim because I have been disabling the Internet. No problems with lag. The only thing that has ever happened was I was running and couldn't stop. I ran for miles. It was actually funny.

I play offline, and very seldom connect my PS3 to the internet. Thanks for the offering a suggestion though.

I have cleared out every single picture, movie and all other games and their related save-files. I have ONE skyrim save, except the auto-saves. I'm not connected to the internet. My ps3 is internally cleaned.

Still suffering the lag.. Got so tired of it that I had to start a new game, overwriting old save files, keeping the old main on a memory stick. Un-playable.
Edit: Btw, I have the old 80 gb fatty ps3.

That is actually a good idea. Starting a new file and saving the old one in case they do patch the game. I planned on having a Stormcloak Nord warrior and Imperial Elf magician.

Still very unfortunate to have to do so, but a good idea.

I'm playing on the xbox, and I have this problem as well. I've tried uninstalling the game from the hard drive, but nothing works. This bug definitely makes the game unplayable.
