Mage's Guild Quest Line... Ugh

Post » Thu Dec 01, 2011 3:19 am

So, does anyone else feel like the mages guild kind o svcked this time around? It was all a bit bland, short, and overall anti-climactic. There was almost no build-up to the end, it was quite short, and the final battle, oh my god: least climactic thing ever. Ancarno was dead in just a few hits, then that was it. I for one, am disappointed. Anyone else agree? Or am I alone here?

You're kind of alone on this one from my personal perspective.

It was not that bad. But Oblivion's mages guild felt allot better. I really felt like I was advancing through the ranks of an organisation bigger than myself. Here they give you a boring castle with nothing to do. I went there to learn magic and ended up just going to the guy in white run as I could not find the specific people.

I agree, the fact that they make a new arrival deal with "saving the world" right off the bat is just laughable. But I find most guilds to have this problem.

I agree, the Mages guild was a bit disappointing, Too short and not enough actual mage like quests. Then you don't really get anything at the end besides some new clothes. I was expecting some exclusive spells for the archmage at least. Nope, nada.

I loved all of the quests. I think you progress through the guild WAY too fast though, but that seems to be the case with all of the guilds, which is kinda disappointing.

It's quite short.

Given that the others died, it's not such a bolt out of the blue when you're made arch mage, but it was over in a bit of a hurry.

Nice and grand though, I enjoyed the set pieces and generally like the quests. Ancano's such a dike

It was a very good dungeon crawl but definetly lacking in the story department.

Never was it revealed what the eye actually was for or why everyone wanted it and after surviving a few fetch quests the youngest college student miraculously becomes archmage, even though far senior college members who know a lot more about everything are present.

There are a large amount of side quests to do to make the college interesting, but the main quest seems to be written in five minutes by someone not good at writing.

I didnt feel powerful at all.... they could have done it ten times better

As a school, you should have to show them you can cast certain spells to progress

Like todays class you will learn to cast flames for 20 seconds ( making you have a minimum level of magika )
Or cast a adept spell ( need a certain amount of skill to unlock the tomes for purchase )
Then they give you assignments and quests after you complete the class...
This way you cant just power through the quest line, you will have to stop and come back after you have leveled up. making you actually powerful by the end and that joining this college actually made you progress your magic due to joining...

I hate to say it but i almost say oblivion was.... better in a lot of ways to skyrim.... like... alot...

Exactly. Oblivion had a wonderful Mage's Guild. You actually had to work to progress. This time, all you had to do was go through a few dungeons, and then you won. Lame.

I liked the storyline, although I really would have liked to know more about the Eye. It did feel too short, but becoming the Arch Mage wasn't terribly far-fetched since you did save everyone. HOWEVER, I think post-storyline it is kind of lame. Some of them give me some tasks but nothing really has to do with being Arch Mage. I don't make any decisions that impact the guild. I don't even have a new Thalmar adviser to snuff.

I think what was there was good, however I had hoped for more classes like with the shield spell at the start. If there had been a class in between each stage of the quest the pacing would have felt much better. It probably also should have had another stage in between Fellglow keep and the dwemer ruin that was more character/dialogue oriented.

My biggest complaint is Labyrinthian totally failed to live up to my expectations. If they had set the exact same dungeon somewhere else and not called it Labyrinthian, it would have been fine, but Labyrinthian should have been a maze filled with magical puzzles, not a corridor full of draugr.

I would have liked more choices. like instead of giving up the eye taking it for your self and getting a magicka bonus for it or a new power or spell. but my biggest issue with it is the lack of a decent reward

after you finish the main critical quests u can start the radiant quests which unlocks the following. Some of the classmates can follow you and once u hit skill lvl 90 u can gain the ultimate spell in each class as long as the class hits skill lvl 90 for instance destruction spell 90 radiant quest will unlock Blizzard and Lightning storm - Illiusion radiant quests unlocks Hysteria and you cdan buy 3 new tomes : Call to Arms, Harmony and Mayhem - Conjuration = Flame Thrall and 3 new tomes u can buy: Dead, frost and storm Thrall - Restoration quests unlocks bane of the Undead and a new tome Gurdian Circle - Alteration unlocks Dragonkin and spell tome for sale; Mass Paralysis

Way too short.

In general, it feels like Skyrim has so much crap to do, that I can't even comprehend what to do next, I have 7 or 8 active quests and at least 30 misc objectives. But the guilds are VERY short, much shorter than in Oblivion.

Kinda weird.

Edit: Also, what the hell does the Eye even do? It's never explained.

Its not explained cause the world isn't ready for it, who knows, maybe it will be featured in the next elder scrolls game

The eye will probably be the center peice for some DLC- the piijic order and their island has appeared in the sea of ghosts. Members of the order have turned up in winterhold asking the collage for help...the Eye has gone out of control...

Yeah I know what you mean. I found a book about Labyrinthia or whatever and it had a diagram of a maze in it. I made sure to bring that book with me when I went to the dungeon for the guild only to find out that it was... just another normal dungeon and the books information didn't matter at all.
