making "better bodies creatures"

Post » Thu Dec 01, 2011 3:30 am

hi,

i'm a complete modelling beginner and i wonder how you can make a better bodies creature?
i want to make new dremoras from existing meshes (better bodies mesh, a head mesh and a better bodies armor mesh)
how can i fit them together? (preferably in a way that leaves textures untouched completely)
i tried some editing in nifskope but gave up after a while... (the armor showed up correclty in nifskope, but not ingame)

some tips, a tutorial, or something else would be nice :)

If you find an answer, let me know!

I just started playing with Nifskope today. From the looks of it, it's mainly a NIF viewer. I think that if it's possible at all, editing meshes in it would be very tedious, other than changing texture files to try different looks (which is easy) or fixing wrong texture paths.

I think the mesh creators use Blender, but I haven't seen an obvious tutorial for that around. It seems to be open-source, though, so there are almost certainly non-MW-specific guides online, but I haven't looked yet. What with three or more tools to build plugins and scripts, more to handle save game issues and loading, more tools to edit objects, and none of them particularly stable or well supported any more and with overlapping features, I'm suffering tool overload...

EDIT: There is Arcimaestro Antares' tutorial for Blender dealing with animations, I linked it in a thread below for Shaddow. I haven't read through it yet to see if there is general setup and mesh-building information - it might be a good start, though.

well, i figured out how to add a glow map for a texture in a mesh with nifskope.
(me figuring that out implies that it's not that difficult either :P)

for applying the armor mesh i copied the branch associated with an armor part and pasted it to the specific body region
(let's say a pauldron to a clavicle node in the nifskope document tree)
can't remember exactly where

as i have said, the mesh was visible ingame, it even moved correctly (attack animations, walking animations, all that),
but despite showing up correctly on the mesh in nifskope, it was hovering above the creature. also, the death animation
would not cause it to just show up "above" the creature in the horizontal axis (so on the ground next to it) but still above
it in the air.

i didn't spend several hours testing (and i don't have the time right now to auto-didact myself through that), so i
thought i just asked, because there are many people around here working with that stuff in their mods (e.g. almalexia
replacer or the better bodies versions of golden saints, etc. etc.)

and, yes, when i look at the list of tools i downloaded for morrowind, i'm shocked as well ;)
