soul gems? Don't you mean batteries?

I was pretty disappointed to discover that the charge system was being used in Skyrim. It's a clunky mechanic that I hoped they'd have ditched by now. You don't need to recharge enchantments on clothes so why weapons? Static enchantments would be much better. I won't bother with enchanting weapons in Skyrim, the whole soul trap/soul gem thing is just annoying.

I'm sorry... in a game like this, we should HAVE to do some things for ourselves and not have the game just automatically do it for us.

Enchanted items, I have always felt, should be those things you use when normal stuff just isn't cutting it. Something you treat with care and respect because you know it is a limited resource. It's easy to give into the temptation of becoming dependent upon the power that the enchantments provide. Doing so should come with a price.

With the requirement of finding, charging and carrying soul gems, which only really comes from the dependency upon enchantments, we as players are experiencing a price that comes with power. As it should be.

What do you think the price should be for wearing enchanted clothes?

Also while we are on the topic. Is a charge used up every time you make contact with a weapon? I swear I enchanted my axe with a common gem (59 charges) an I know for a fact I have hit way more than 59 times. I still have 75% of the soul bar left.

So you haven't noticed how common the soul gems are compared to oblivion? You can find them everywhere. Sure, they're not all that great, but I find them every time i enter a room. And if you have a huge problem, get your sneak on and steal them. They're in half the shops I go in!

The only thing i'm wondering about is what kind of Gem i need to trap human souls. I trapped dragons, giants, even mammoths, but never a simple bandit. Always says the 'Soulgem isnt large enough'.

You need Black Soul Gems. Necromancers make 'em, but I've only ever found one and I don't know yet if you can make 'em like you could in Oblivion. Hope that helps.

As I see it, enchanted wearables should have charge equal to its health. When the wearable take damage, it loses charge in the same proportion that it loses health. When the wearable is repaired, its health should be restored but its charge should require, you guessed it, soul gems to restore.

I don't really mind the soul gems, but I have to admit, other fantasy games have greatly spoiled me with static enchantments. (ones that don't use charges) I'd much rather have a Sword with a flat +3 fire damage that I NEVER need to recharge, than a sword with +10 fire damage I have to recharge every few fights. I do realize there are certain "artifacts" that make this easier if you know what I mean, but I'd still like the option to do a static/permanent enchantment without charges. Maybe a mod someday. :)

I know what you mean.

This is my first TES game, and its hard to wrap my head around the whole soul gem mechanic when im so used to the static way (and my preffered way) other games use enchantments.

Kinda gets annoying how often you have to recharge items :(
