did the disastrous launch of new vegas permanently hurt modd

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 9:01 am

I'd say it's done the opposite. It's given a new importance to modding. It's why Bug Fixes has become a category of mods. Whether or not this is a good thing is up for debate. I am personally of the opinion that it is the responsibility of the game creators to address the many game-breaking bugs before selling me the game. It's almost like they've pushed their workload onto the modders. I feel exploited.

Yes, I agree and thing that claiming that either the NV's rep with bugs or Steam has hurt sales to any appreciable degree is simply being dramatic.

bug fix category or not it didn't stop the disastrous gameplay from crashing repeatedly, and with that there are only a select few who won, those who pirated got the unpatched non glitchly version of the game which is a big Dissapoint from steam, the fact that forcing crashy patches for people to play, which only fixed very small amount of stuff that was minor, should of been last on the list. if i had of know that steam would brake this game i wouldn't of gotten it. yes steam did break the modding community, and the fact that it was on steam has deterred alot of modders from buying the game from steam to port there mods to FNV.
@Miaximus ... how long have you been following Bethesda's products? Quality over Quantity doesnt means not alot, FO3 dlcs were meant to be Quality but then we got The Pitt and Point lookout, so...

I was referring to the quality of our Mods, not Bethesda's products (the thread is about modding, not about the QC of Bethesda products no?)

Were you too busy crying like a baby to capitalise?

Steam rocks, if you didn't already have Steam before NV you had no business buying any videogames at all. If you haven't got Half-Life 2, Portal, Team Fortress 2 or Left 4 Dead you have no appreciation of quality and should be barred from coming within 200m of videogames, let alone criticising them.

Steam rocks, (...snip)

As I already explained at the start of this thread in detail is my experience with Steam and modding completly different.

so you think no ones cracked those games? + yes i have all of those games exluding L4D2 so, what i am saying is that most games aren't meant to be on steam, steams good at what it makes, their source engine games and indie games anything they didn't make should stay off it personally,
@TojKa i actually liked Zeta the most! then Broken Steel then those other ones....
@Miaximus you brang up the Bethesda's products which the dlcs being on of their products weren't very streamlined

Of all the crappy DRM schemes out there, Steam is still one of the better ones.

But really, there are already enough topics dealing with the Steam issue.
If it has deterred some modders I guess it has also brought some new potential modders to the game, so time will tell.

So?

I am allowed to discuss Bethesda products ALL DAY LONG if I choose to do that, I love the company and support (almost) everything they do.

That said, why not stay on topic instead of attacking someone over something completely off-topic?

Zeta had too overpowered loot for my tastes, the setting itself was interesting, but the actual gameplay quite boring. My main problem with Broken Steel is that it broke the already poor balance of Fallout 3 completely, and i'm one of the (very) few that likes the original ending.

And it seems no lessons were learned since level caps increase in New Vegas DLCs too
