NPC stutter isn't Obsidians fault, how do the new drivers wo

Post » Thu Dec 01, 2011 4:53 pm

You guys do know that right? I just dont think its fair or right to trash Obsidian or Beth for something that isn't even their fault.

On a side note, does the new Driver update work? Im a little nervous, with the .DLL fix the game runs perfectly at all times. Im scared that if I get the new drivers the DLL fix wont work anymore if it doenst fix the stutter problem.

New drivers do not affect the dll.

Dude, you are so wrong. The engine has been broken since Oblivion and has never been addressed. Get your facts right.

Well, he's right in the sense that it's not Bethesda's/Obsidian's fault.

Unfortunately, that's not going to stop whiny little kids from blaming them for everything.

It isn't their fault for not ditching the engine?

I think you mean "Emergent Game Technologies (gamebyro engine)"

It isn't their fault for not ditching the engine?

That is more accurate. I've been hoping since Oblivion they would, but alas no.

Still loving the game though as I have only had minor annoying issues vs game stoppers. (And frankly I'm not that many hours in so they could come.)

Gamebryo's engine is defective, that's certain, but the odd Geforces-only problem with NPCs is mostly video drivers, and secondarily Microsoft's Direct3D's fault, or the simple expedient of lying to the system about the age of the Geforce wouldn't be so successful.

The apparent far greater succeptibility of Geforces to crashing, freezing, and other bad behavior isn't wholly the gamebryo engine's fault, either.

I was looking at the specs for the Id game engine that the parent company now owns, and disappointed to see that it also is stuck back in 2005, where Dx9 ruled, same as the Gamebryo and UT3 engines still are.

It's not geforce-only.

It's absolutely their fault. They released the game, they chose the engine. They either didn't do proper testing or DID do proper testing and knowingly released the game like this. Either way, their fault.

Gamebyro is not *that* bad. I have Defense Grid which uses it and have no problems at all with that game.

FO is just a giant world with a physics engine thrown in on top of it all.

Patches will come, they always do. Have patience. In the mean time I do not really see the point of this thread in the tech section...

No, no patience. This crap should have been fixed BEFORE release. No one should release a game in this state.

and this.

Game shouldn't have been released in the shape it is in now. If there was no dll user fix to this the outcry would be a lot louder, sadly its making the real issue a lot more docile than it really is.

Its both nvidia and ati cards with problems, everyone's hardware is acting up. Doesn't matter if you have an old card or a new one. Even with the dll fix it doesn't stop the games intermittent lag spikes and microstutters.

Really, how could it have been released like this.

All I can say is obsidian really dodged a bullet with the user-fix. What I wonder is why the hell its taking them so long to patch the game. If someone can do their own user fix in a day after release then oh em gee what the hell is going on over there at obsidian?
