I've just about found all the steel ingots in the steelyard (thanks to a guide). There's a few behind a door I can't open yet because my lockpick skill isn't high enough, but the ones I'm concerned about are the last four that I can't find/reach. I think they're in the section above the ramp leading down to the dead Raider near the toxic waste barrels down at the bottom of the map. I can't see them, nor can I jump over the railing above the pipe I'm walking on. There's no other bridge I can see. Am I even looking in the right area?
As for the lock, can you pop a Mentat to help out your skill? As for the ingots... man that was a pain.
When you first pop out of that room, looking at the yard, there is an area to the left, on the second level. Beyond all the dumpsters, beyond those smaller sections of the yard on the left, there are stairs over a foreman's shack iirc, (this is all iirc btw) . When you get to the floor (actually the top of the roof, still on the left, you make your way up to the section at the bottom of the passageways to the big vat. (Past Wild Bill.) There should be a big area before going up, to your left. Usually there is one female Wildman for me. At the very end of this roof-line on the left, is a chain-link fence. Get there, and MAKE A SAVE. Then inch your way around the fence post, to the other side. Then heal yourself and save again. Then jump down. At best I've lost half my health on a level 8 character, at worst I've been crippled. Save again. Keep going down, you'll see some pipes and a place that is obvious where you can climb up and around, again to your left. Just search in the chainlink fence area that you are in. After you get those maddening last four ingots, get ready to rumble.
Does this make any sense? Is this the location that you are actually talking about? Do you remember taking a big jump down? Also, there is a major glitch if you are on the 360, but I don't know if this was fixed in GOTY, as I have the original disc and disc dlcs. There is a fix for this glitch, but could potentially be bad. The roof where you cross to the fence post, you will fall through to Oblivion and die, due to an invisible hole in the roof. There's no way around, you can't jump it, you fall forever through the game and die. The solution is to take Point Lookout off your hard disk. After you cross the roof, and save again of course, you may re-install PL. The only problem that crops up is if you did PL BEFORE the Pitt. Then you lose everything.
When you delete PL, the game will say you're about to lose stuff. I say yes, because usually at that point, I have an undiscovered map marker, and I've only been able to buy a few Punga Fruit. The only stuff you lose is the fruit, if you still have it, and the map marker, which comes back after reinstall.
