Do you feel that this game is unfinished?

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 12:08 am

it feels like this game was released without proper testing in regards of performance and bugs. I'm not even talking about the bigger things, like lag, shadows, fps drops, ctd's. it's the smaller things that irritate me but seem easy to notice and are most likely simple to fix. for example: when I take out a weapon while moving in crouched position, my movement speed increases considerably for some reason. also, I can't place the custom marker on quest markers - in fact, quest markers are blocking the surrounding area on the map as well, so I need to place them way behind my destination to know in wich direction I need to go. custom markers will also become obscured by other compass markers making it difficult to know where I'm going.

I admit, those are minor annoyances but they hint at a premature release, at least on the pc. 11.11.11. is an epic date and makes for good marketing, but at the expense of polishing and bugfixing as it seems.

anyone else get the same impression?

It feels like they didn't smooth it out as much as they should have. When they first announced the release date of 11-11-11, I said that they would either miss that date or release an unfinished product. While the game is "complete", they missed a ton of obvious and glaring bugs and errors.

Yep I agree. They didn't do much testing. Hopefully these things will get sorted out soon. I also agree the game feels lacking of content, unfinished in general. Same monsters all over the world and fast travelling ruined the game for me. I saw all corners of the map in under 6 hours.

Nah, I feel this game is quite finished actually. I could easily name a few games that were REALLY unfinished and rushed. (per example Dragon age 2) What you've mentioned are bugs, problems in the interface etc - not actual content being half-finished.

Totally Disagree,The game was mostly finished when they annouced the released date, I haven't noticed any bugs in my game.

It's not necessarily bugs (although there are plenty of those) it's just the general smoothness of the game. The UI for PC isn't up to snuff. The guild quests (specifically the Thieve's Guild) don't so much end as just stop going on. There is at least one feature in the manual that flat out doesn't work in-game.

It's possibly the most flawed greatest game of all time. While there is nothing too major, there are a bunch of minor, nitpicky things that add up.

No one here ACTUALLY knows how much testing Bethesda did, let alone anything about programming/creating a game of this size and scope. Leave your conjecture tucked away in your tiny brains.

If it was "unfinished" it would not have been released.

To answer your question directly: No.

Other than some scripting issues that's almost impossible to avoid in a game of this scope this was a extremely smooth launch. My reference point being the New Vegas train wreck of last year where the game was little more than a chunk of malware on my HDD for six weeks.

It's to be expected with Bethesda games. I've been playing 20+ hours and found nothing gamebreaking, but I'm anticipating problems if I'm honest.

Is there some content that didnt make into the game that was supposed to? As of this post, I dont think so. So yes this game is a finished product barring one or two bugs.

I may have phrased it a bit wrong. I'm not talking about unfinished content, as in storyline, side quests, areas and features (because I haven't experienced it yet). the smaller things I mentioned seem to indicate a rushed release of the game, things that could have been easily avoided if the game was tested properly. otherwise, how can a playtester not experience the faster running speed in crouched position after unsheathing a weapon, or overly aggressive horses that also have difficulties running on uneven terrain (they are either glued to it, or run up high in the air then fall down on the ground and die).

90% of my annoyance from bugs is all from the poorly translated from console UI. Nothing like clicking an item to browse on merchants and it kicking you back to dialog options 3-4 times in a row.

Almost all the other bugs have been quirks in the radiant quest system. Like a dead elf hiring people to come after me for looting his house, after I found him dead in the street and helped myself to his house key. Or being sent out to track down a dangerous female convict and it turning out to be a man instead.

Um....no..

Evidently you didn't buy Rage for the PC.

They done a great job with this game, and the few bugs it does have will be patched I am sure.

Rage was unplayable.

yes.. they surely had a lack of testers for pc.. or just had some really lazy ones.. don't get me wrong, i love this game.. but so many easy spotted bugs got left alone anyway..
